ISFL season 42 (also referred to as the 2057 NSFL season) began on Error: Invalid time. with the Sarasota Sailfish hosting the Chicago Butchers. The season concluded with Ultimus Bowl XLII, held in Oslo, Norway on 10 February, 2058, where the Arizona Outlaws were crowned ISFL champions after defeating the Berlin Fire Salamanders by a score of 38-14.

The league year began in March of 2054, with teams allowed to contact and enter negotiations with players whose contracts were not yet extended beyond the end of the 2053 ISFL season.

Draft
The 2054 ISFL Draft was held on 12 April, 2054. The Honolulu Hahalua selected linebacker Seth Leavitt with the first overall pick.
Rule changes
The following rule changes were approved by a committee consisting of ISFL general managers and Head Office, to come into effect for the 2057 season and beyond:
- Rookies may choose to switch positions or archetypes one time, free of charge from the point of creation up to the start of the Ultimus of their first season after the DSFL draft. This does not count as their one career position switch. They may reallocate 100% of their TPE in this switch with no penalty.
Preseason
Training camps for the 2054 season started on 02 August, 2054 league-wide, with the first preseason game being held on 30 August, 2054 between the Arizona Outlaws and the Orange County Otters.
Regular season
The regular season's 112 games, played over a 16-week schedule, began on 27 September, 2054.

Postseason
The 2057 ISFL playoffs consisted of three rounds; with four divisional games being played before two conference championships – contested by the winners of each divisional game. The winners of the conference championship games then played in Ultimus Bowl XLII.
