Theo Lariat (born September 12, 2002) was an American football kicker for the Minnesota Grey Ducks. He played college football for University of Cincinnati (UCIN).

Early years

Theo Lariat was born in Cincinnati to Tex and June Lariat. While his parents were born Texans, they relocated to Cincinnati before Theo was born. His athletic career got its start by way of soccer, Lariat is an avid FC Cincinnati supporter, but when his high school football team was in desperate need of a kicker, Lariat answered the call and served as a surprisingly competent rookie in his junior year. With marked improvement in the off season, Lariat returned to put up remarkable stats his senior year. While his team ultimately fell short of post-season success, Theo's efforts were impressive enough to attract the attention of local scouts. He was approached by the University of Cincinnati during his senior season, and that is who he ultimately selected. When asked why he chose University of Cincinnati to start his college football career, Lariat said "Cincinnati has always been home to me, it's treated me well. I trust that the city will continue to provide me new opportunities."

College career

"His soccer career now a distant memory, Lariat's freshman year at UCIN saw drastic improvement in his skills. When asked for comment at the time, special teams coaching staff insider had the following to say, ""When we brought Theo on, I admit I was skeptical. The kid grew up on a soccer field and just didn't have the proven background that you'd like to see. He's grown on me, that's for sure. The kid has work ethic as good as anyone in the league and his accuracy numbers have only gotten stronger this season."" Praise of this nature is found easily around the UCIN organization, coaches, teammates, and office staff seem to hold Lariat in high regard.

With similar momentum up to the present, Theo Lariat has shown himself to be a top kicker in the league. Current statistics show him holding a field goal percentage of 94.9% and 2.04 field goals per game, and he appears to be living up to the hype that Cincinnati has begun to build around this young prospect."

2048 Season

Theo Lariat was picked up on waivers by the Minnesota Grey Ducks just before the start of the 2048 preseason. He struggled in his first several starts in the DSFL, but was able to find his footing as the season progressed. Across the fourteen game regular season, Lariat made all but one extra point, and kicked for a staggering 120 points. Media had many misgivings about turning a former soccer star into a starting kicker in the DSFL, but the season turned into a success story for Theo with his unexpected success in Minnesota.

His most troubling performance came in the third quarter of the Ultimini Championship game, where Lariat missed two field goals during the third quarter. In an otherwise flawless playoff performance, this uncharacteristic lapse in accuracy has gained Lariat no shortage of detractors in Minnesota, swearing the young kicker off for ruining their championship run.

Lariat showed talent in his position as the team’s kicker, but ISFL scouts have also noticed an overall athleticism in Theo, and have shown interest in trying the rookie in different positions on the roster during the offseason.

2049 Season

After a successful first season in the DSFL, Theo Lariat continued that trend again with the Minnesota Grey Ducks through the 2049 season. On paper, it appears that Lariat's performance through this season was fairly similar to the season before. Lariat faltered in the stats when it came to extra point completion, missing twice as often this season compared to last.

Where he really showed improvement was where it matters most: field goal performance. Lariat's kicks were good in all but three field goal attempts, leaving him with a completion rate of 88%. That level of consistency would earn him a Minnesota Grey Ducks record for season FG% - the previous record was 83.9%, set by Gluteus Maximus in 2043.

Lariat was called upon much more often for his ability to punt in 2049, making 82 throughout the 14 game season, compared to only 67 the previous season. Again, these reps earned Theo his second and final Minnesota Grey Ducks franchise record, for punting yards in a season with a total of 6,352 yards. The previous record, 3,545 yards, was set by Levy Tate in the 2044 season.

2049 was the final season for Lariat on special teams, however. The former kicker has become a cornerback after being called up to play in the ISFL with the Philadelphia Liberty.
