Donovan Winters III (born January 1, 1900) is an American football runningback for the Portland Pythons of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Donovan Winters was born in Toccoa, Georgia to Donovan Jr. and Martha Winters, and was raised there until the age of 13, when the family relocated to Santa Ana, California so Donovan could attend Mater Dei High School. Donny was a multi-sport athlete from an early age. He grew up playing Quarterback and Safety on the football field, as well as playing Attack and Midfield on the lacrosse team. He was known for his unlimited staminia, which he credits to running up and down Mt. Curahee, tracing the steps of his great-great grandfather, Richard Winters, of "Band of Brothers" fame. This stamina served as a foundation to his outstanding performance in both sports, however he decided to specalize in football, as he felt that his professional prospects were better. After being recruited by most major college football programs as a Quarterback, he committed to play college ball for Arizona State University.

College career

Donovan did not make an instant impact upon the Arizona State University football program, as he redshirted his freshman year. His redshirt freshman year, he made the playing roster, however he was third string on the depth chart and did not see the field. Donny credits these two years for much of his later success, as these were the first two years in his life that football had been his priority. It was during his redshirt yeah that he met his best friend, Sherwin Blue Jr., who was on a medical redshirt for an ankle injury of dubious severity. In Donovan's redshirt sophomore year, He was the backup QB, however a late season injury to the starter allowed Donovan to start the last three games of the season. Donovan used this momentum to earn the starting job for his redshirt junior year. Donovan and Arizona State had a fantastic season, finishing 13-1 with a Rose Bowl Victory. Donovan returned for his senior year despite much of the Rose Bowl winning team, including Sherwin Blue, declaring for the draft or graduating. ASU did not quite live up to expectations, finishing 10-3.

Profesional career

Season 38

Donovan Winters was drafted in the second round of the DSFL Draft by the Portland Pythons. He had an unremarkable season on what ended up being a fairly disappointing team, in which they finished 6-8, good for last in the conference. He threw for 2865 yards and completed nearly 58% of his passes, with a rather pedestrian 17 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. Donovan had a quiet start to the season, but once the Pythons acquired undrafted rookie WR Plant Based from the waiver wire, Donovan and the Pythons showed what they were capable of, finishing the last five games of the season with a 4-1 record, with the only loss being a close one point game to the Tijuana Luchadores. The high point of Donovan's season came during this stretch, he led the Pythons to a 48-7 win over the London Royals. He threw for 3 TDs and 274 yards on 65% completion. Unfortunately this late season run was not enough for the Pythons to make the Playoffs.

Season 39

With high expectations going into his sophomore season, Donovan Winters was primed for a breakout season. Donovan started the season strong, throwing for 300 yards and two TDs against the Minnesota Gray Ducks. He followed up that performance with another two TDs in a loss against the Kansas City Coyotes. Donovan threw for three TDs on a season low 112 yards in a win against the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. Donovan continued the good play with two TDs against the Tijuana Luchadores. The Pythons rallied from a 2-2 start to rattle off three wins against the Dallas Birddogs, London Royals, and the Norfolk Seawolves. Donovan led the offense by scoring 8 TDs over these three games. The Pythons were derailed against the Gray Ducks, but Donovan had another two TD game. Donovan threw a season high four TDs against the Buccaneers, and finished out the season strong with three TDs on 22/29 passing against the Royals. The pythons ended up missing the playoffs by half a game, but built the foundation for future success!

Season 40

Donovan Winters once again was sent down by the Arizona Outlaws. As the signal caller for the Portland Pythons, his goal would be to win the Ultimini. His season started off poorly, with Portland taking a 1-3 record from their first three games. The lone win came from a 31-27 win over the Minnesota Grey Ducks in which he threw for three touchdowns and amassed over 300 yards. After this skid, Portland went on a tear, winning six of their next seven games. This run was highlighted by a three TD performance in a 47-13 win over Norfolk, a 2 TD performance in a 44-0 win over Tijuana, and a 2 TD performance in a 38-6 win over Kansas City. Portland ended up making the playoffs with a 8-6 record, which was good enough for first in the conference. They were victorious over the London Royals, but fell once again to the Bondi Beach Buccaneers in the Ultimini.

Season 41

2056 was a year to forget for Donovan Winters. He struggled to start the season, with an interception and a lost fumble in a loss to the Minnesota Grey Ducks. He followed that performance up with another interception and lost fumble in a loss to the Coyotes. And then he followed that up with another interception and fumble, but the team managed to beat Bondi Beach. Donovan has a career lowlight game in a loss against Tijuana, throwing two interceptions and losing two fumbles. Donovan continued his stream of multiple turnovers in a game in a win against Dallas, and a loss to London. He was able to clean it up and only had one turnover in a win over Norfolk, but this was followed by a 62-9 drubbing versus Minnesota. Donovan briefly remembered how to play quarterback and Portland rattled off three consecutive wins to reenter the playoff hunt, but tragically Donovan forgot how to play quarterback again and Portland went on a three game losing stream to eliminate themselves from playoff contention. In his final game as a Portland Python, Donovan once again had two turnovers but led the team to a win to save a .500 record.

Season 42

Donovan Winters was called up to the Arizona Outlaws to replace the retiring Wendell Sailor, after four seasons playing for the Portland Pythons. Behind one of the best offensive lines in the league, with two superstar running backs and a strong wide receiver corps, Donovan was expected to manage the game and not turn the ball over. Donovan struggled in his first ISFL start, throwing for just 200 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in a one point loss to the Honolulu Hahalua. After this performance, Donovan settled into his role as starter and the Outlaws rattled off six straight wins. During this stretch, Donovan's best performances were 300 yards and three touchdowns against the Copperheads and another three touchdown game against San Jose. Arizona lost two straight after this win streak, but finished the regular season on a seven game win streak to end the regular season 13-3. The highlight of this seven game streak was four touchdowns against arch-rival Willier Miller and the Sarasota Sailfish, in a 34-27 win. Donovan took the backseat to Danny Nedelko and Sherwin Blue Jr. in the playoffs, having a quiet Conference Championship game against the Hahalua, and one one touchdown and 250 yards in the Ultimus. Despite the quiet playoff run, Donovan hoisted his first trophy with the Outlaws and was recognized as the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Season 43

Going into Season 43, Expectations were sky high for the reigning Offensive Rookie of the year. Unfortunately, Donovan fell into a sophomore slump and had an up and down season. Donny started the season hot, throwing for two TDs and no interceptions in a loss to the Silverbacks. He followed this up with a similar performance in a win over the Hahalula. Donovan actually made it until week six before throwing an interception, temporarily stopping the wINTers memes. He then proceeded to forget how to throw the ball and threw 15 interceptions over the final 10 weeks of the season, including several pick sixes. The Outlaws struggled down the stretch and finished with a mere 9 wins, their lowest total since Donovan was in high school. Overall, Donovan was a handoff merchant who finished near the bottom of the league in every statistical category. The Outlaws won the wildcard game before falling to the Silverbacks in the Conference Championships.

Season 44

After a down year in Season 43, Donovan Winters was looking to bounce back in a big way. Unfortunately, Donovan did anything but that. He had arguably the worst QB season in the league, and most likely the worst QB season of any Outlaws QB in the last 20+ seasons. Donovan's season highlight was throwing for 4 TDs and 183 yards on 76% Completion against the New Orleans Second Line, but little did he know the season would be all downhill from there. After a strong 4-1 start to the season, the Outlaws finished the season on a dismal 4-6 run to miss the playoffs for the first time in 20 seasons. Donovan finished the season with a disappointing 3351 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 Interceptions for a passer rating of just 88.0. The Outlaws are hoping to bounce back in Season 45 and Donovan will once again begin the search for his rookie season form.
