Cob Corning (born August 31, 1984) is an American football cornerback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Cornell University and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

One of the great things about living in Ohio are The Cornfields. Not only do they produce sustenance to the human settlements, they have also been known to occasionally produce... other things.

Having been born after the Great Corn War (1951-1982), Cob is one of the few living Corn Men to have been allowed to integrate with human society. It is a well known fact that Corn Men excel at football (citation needed). Where human football players get their strength from being corn-fed, Cob Corning is himself made entirely from corn. This direct and constant supply of carbohydrates has eliminated his need to carbo-load before training or games, and is largely responsible for his freakish stamina, speed, and strength. It is said that Cob exited the cornfield of his birth sprinting at a speed of 30 ft/s, giving him a 100 yard dash time of 10 seconds. Upon exiting The Cornfields, Cob is believed to have made a bee line to the nearest football field where he promptly deflected a pass.

Cob then enrolled at Cornell University (believing it to be run by Corn Men) and would become their star cornerback, although the reason he decided to be a cornerback is still unknown.

College career

Cob would prove to be the most successful cornerback of Cornell University history. With 212 solo tackles, 238 assisted tackles, 197 deflections, 100 sacks, and 1 interception, it is believed that Cob Corning may be the most successful college football player of all time. This is, however, not an uncontested fact.

Some skeptics assert that Cob's accomplishments are impossible, even given his Corn Man heritage. "I'm supposed to believe that a walking lump of corn achieved all that in 4 years? There aren't even that many downs in a typical college player's career" posited one such skeptic. "And I'm pretty sure Cornell doesn't even have a football team" he added.

Despite the controversy, Cob would continue to set his sights on the horizon, with the ultimate goal of becoming the greatest cornerback in ISFL history. With his sights set on the Season 34 draft, Cob eagerly waits to make his DSFL debut. When interviewed about the upcoming draft and asked to elaborate on the possibility of furthering his dream, Cob replied: "It's corn time."

Season 34 (2049 (S34))

Season 34 was Cob's first season in the DSFL. He was drafted 1OA by the Portland Pythons and started in all 14 games of the season. Eager to test his mettle in the big leagues and to prove to humanity that Corn People are the genetically superior football players, Cob played this season as if his life depended on it. While Cob led the league in pass deflections throughout most of the season, he eventually lost this lead and tied for 2nd place with Donatello McTurtle with 27 passes deflected. Cob also managed to get a 40 yard pick 6 in this first season, and would net a total of 87 yards on his interceptions. He was the leader of fumbles (in terms of cornerbacks) with 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. His performance caught the attention of the league and earned him a ticket to the DSFL Pro Bowl where he would achieve 5 tackles and 1 forced fumble. His run in the DSFL would be short lived, however. After the Season 34 Ultimus, Cob was drafted by the Baltimore Hawks and immediately called up to the ISFL.

Season 35 (2050 (S35))

Despite his immediate call up to the ISFL, his team didn't have an immediate need for him as a cornerback. Makao_Mahi´Ai, a seasoned veteran of the team with much more experience than Cob, switched his position to cornerback. The Hawks also ended up trading for cornerback Mark Goodhead, another seasoned veteran. Since those two players had more experience and value in the position, they played the corners while Cob filled the role of nickelback and outside linebacker. In terms of stats, this was a less than advantageous position compared to his time in the DSFL as one of the league's best cornerbacks. Despite this, Cob was still able to make some plays when they counted, including an interception and sack against the Chicago Butchers in the season 35 conference championship. Cob and his team were unable to secure the championship, but ended the season as a more strongly performing team than when the season started.

Season 36 (2051 (S36))

As Cob began getting more comfortable on the field and started getting some more experience under his belt, his performance began to improve. But since Corning was still the least experienced cornerback on the team, he stayed in the nickleback position. Despite this position having less opportunities than the outside cornerback positions, Cob saw an improvement in stats across the board. Corning had more: tackles, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, sacks, interceptions, and passes deflected while also lowering his number of misses.

This year also marked Cob's induction into the SMJHL as a d-man for the Detroit Falcons. When asked whether or not he thought this would affect his performance in the ISFL, he reportedly answered "I'm doing this so that I can put more money towards the Cornfield Restoration and Acquisition Project. Every dollar I earn from the SMJHL will be spent on building homes and communities for my fellow Corn People. Wait what was the question?"
