With the second pick of the DSFL’s first draft, the Kansas City Coyotes selected quarterback Nicholas Pierno out of NC State, and eventual pro-bowler in the ISFL. In the third round, the Coyotes also selected Offensive Lineman Jordan Weal, who would also go on to feature in the ISFL Pro Bowl. Their other picks in the draft were WR Jaquan Young, K Joseph Lombardi, S Mitch Maslin, CB Jackson Harris, LB Jupiter Oaks, DT Typical Newenglander, S James Lillico, and finally, CB King Arthur.

In preseason, the Coyotes went 2-2 with losses away to the Chicago Blues (27-10) and the San Antonio Marshalls (32-14). At home, they were able to eek out a win against the Tijuana Luchadores (24-17) and beat Chicago in a preseason rematch 28-17.

Kansas City’s inaugural regular season game saw them face off against the San Antonio Marshals at home in Kansas City. Their start to life in the DSFL was not kind to them. Coyote’s quarterback Shawn Brady completed 21/39 passes for 159 and 3 interceptions. Unable to get much going on through the air or on the ground, the Coyote’s lost their first game 26-6 to the Marshals. In Week 2, Kansas City was able to bounce back securing their first win against the Tijuana Luchadores, 28-9 with three touchdown passes by Brady and an 89-yard punt return by King Arthur. The remainder of the season was a series of ups and downs for the Coyotes. They were able to get revenge on the Marshals for their opening day defeat In Week 4, beating them away from home 13-12. In Week 9, the Coyotes put up 50 points on Tijuana for their largest points total on the season with stellar performances from running back Jovan Grujicic and wide receiver Victor DeMar with a pair of touchdowns to both their names. After two wins and two losses in the final four games of the season, the Coyotes were able to punch their ticket to the postseason going 7-7 in their first season in the inaugural season of the DSFL. Their playoff run would be cut short, however, after getting dismantled 41-9 by the San Antonio Marshals who would go on to defeat the Seawolves in the championships to lift the first Ultimini trophy.

Heading into their second season, with the fourth pick of the draft, the Coyote’s selected future Hall of Famer, CB Andre Bly Jr. out of the University of Florida. Other picks in the draft include S Jacob Lattimore, WR Victor Ball, CB LaMarcus Mills, and OL Ray Riemann.

Preseason started with a pounding. The Coyotes were routed by the Chicago Blues 46-7. They rallied to beat Tijuana (23-17) in the second week of preseason but were shutout by the Portland Pythons for their third preseason game, 37-0. Eager to end the preseason on a high note, the Coyotes were able to pull out a big win against Norfolk, 38-7, before the start of the regular season.

The 2019 (S4) season opened with a win at home against the Tijuana Luchadores 39-14. In which new quarterback, Christian Adams, threw for 290 yards with 5 total touchdowns (4 passing, 1 rushing) and 1 interception. Over their next four games, the were able to pick up two more wins against Tijuana in Week 3 (29-6) and the San Antonio Marshals (23-16) with losses to the Marshals away and Blue away in Weeks 2 and 4, respectively. The promising start to the season quickly turned around on the Coyotes with them going winless in Weeks 6-13 with the only bright spot being a 7-7 tie with the Norfolk Seawolves. Over the course of these eight games, the Coyotes were outscored 151 to 68, highlighting their defensive woes. Luckily, they were able to go out on a positive note at home, beating the Chicago Blues handedly, 20-7, finishing the season 4-9-1 and missing out on the DSFL playoffs.

Quarterback Christian Adams finished third in total passing yards racking up 2969 yards and 12 passing touchdowns while their running back, Marcus Robinson, was able to gain 916 yards and contribute 3 touchdowns. Leading the Wide Receivers, Blast Michaels, picked up 741 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. The Kansas City defense spent a lot of the time on the field and were able to make the second most tackles of the league (727) and having a league low 31 sacks (second lowest Norfolk Seawolves -43).

==2020 S5==

Eager to put their worst season (so far) behind them, the Coyotes focused on draft prep going into the 2020 (S5) Season. Some fans say that their second season was worth it because with their first pick of the 2020 (S5) draft, they selected eventual Hall of Famer Quarterback Borkus Maximus III. With their third pick, the Coyotes’ draft prep also landed them another Hall of Famer, Kicker Micycle McCormick. With their last two picks, the Coyotes were able to scoop up TE Poopyface Tomatonose and RB Robby Rainey, bother players would eventually feature in the ISFL Pro Bowl. Other picks in this draft include: WR Jerry Ricecake, LB Jack Dwyer, DE Deez Nutts, unknown position player Tor Tuck, and DE Wendell Blye.

After a strong draft, the Coyotes were immediately brought back to reality losing all four of the preseason games and an opening day away loss to the Tijuana Luchadores, 10-0. In their second game, Kansas City got their first win of the season at home against the Portland Pythons, beating them 20-13. Veteran running back Marcus Robinson was able to chip in with two touchdowns and 74 yards on 8 attempts. At this point in the season, Maximus had yet to find the endzone. Finally, in Week 3, the fans were able to see what all of the Borke Maximus III was all about when he passed for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Coyotes beat the Seawolves 34-21. In Week 5, The Coyotes were also able to beat the Marshals 24-19 with Maximus passing for two more touchdowns. Again, the Coyotes entered another midseason slump, this time losing seven games in a row starting with a 30-0 beatdown by the eventual 2020 Ultimini winning Portland Pythons. Bright spots were hard to come by in this season, but thankfully, they were able to get one final win against Norfolk (23-13) before rounding out the season with a loss to the Palm Beach Solar Bears ending the season with a 4-10 record and missing out on the playoffs for the second season in a row.

The Kansas City Coyotes are a professional American football franchise based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Coyotes currently compete in the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL) as a member club of the league's DSFL Northern Conference (DSFL North) which currently only has one division. The franchise was established in 2018 (S3) as one of the original DSFL teams. The Coyotes have three Ultimini wins: 2027 (S12), when they won over the San Antonio Marshalls, 37-7; 2053 (S38), when they won over the Norfolk Seawolves, 17-3; and 2054 (S39), when they won over the Norfolk Seawolves again, 44-20.

History of the Kansas City Coyotes

Establishment

The Coyotes were founded in 2018 (S3) season as one of the original six franchises of the Developmental Simulation Football League. They were placed in the Eastern Conference alongside the San Antonio Marshals and the Tijuana Luchadores.

Conference changes

For the 2021 season, the Developmental Simulation Football League restructured the conferences such that teams previously associated with the East would now be part of the DSFL North, and teams associated with the West would now be part of the DSFL South.

For the 2034 season, the San Antonio Marshals were rebranded to the Grey Ducks and moved to Minnesota, precipitating a move for the Kansas City Coyotes from the DSFL North to the DSFL South.

For the 2035 season, the Norfolk Seawolves were moved to the DSFL South, and the Kansas City Coyotes were returned to the DSFL North.
