Tyler started all 14 games in his first full professional season, racking up solid numbers as a "Troublemaker". Montain, along with [[Yuuto Kira Cloudera]] made up the core of the defensive line for the Birddogs, leading to the fourth best run-stopping performance of the season. Tyler recorded five sacks on the season, putting him in second place for all defensive tackles. He also recorded thirty-five tackles (tied for sixth) and one fumble recovery (tied for first) on the season. The Birddogs started the year with a 1-3 performance in the preseason utilizing fewer schemes in order to mask their strategy going into the regular season. They started off the regular season with a huge win at home over the [[Minnesota Grey Ducks]]. Montain started the game, but didn't appear to be able to beat Minnesota's stacked offensive line recording zero tackles and one penalty. In week two, the Birddogs traveled to Myrtle Beach for an important conference match up. The Birddogs were trounced 26-6, but Montain's performance improved as he tied [[Blade McCoy]] for most tackles on the day with eight. The rest of the season followed the pattern, with Dallas rarely having any record other than .500. They would end the season even at 7-7 narrowly missing a playoff spot with a loss in Week 11 to the [[Norfolk Seawolves]]. In a defensive struggle that saw Montain finish with two tackles and a sack, the Seawolves managed to drive to the Dallas 29 and kick the game winning field goal with two seconds left on the clock. In his second to last game with Dallas, Tyler was able to play against his brother, [[Asher Montain]]. Neither of the Montain brothers had great games, with Tyler recording only two tackles. Both brothers did, however, receive a 15 yard penalty. The last game of the season was played away against the [[Kansas City Coyotes]] where the Birddogs won 31-23. Montain recorded four tackles to finish out his DSFL career.

Over the next several games, Montain averaged just under two tackles a game and spent most of his time stuffing the middle of the opposing team's line. Baltimore went an even four and four, losing one major blowout against the [[Philadelphia Liberty]] but keeping most of their other games close and even winning by a large margin at home against the [[Sarasota Sailfish]]. During this run, the Hawks managed a huge upset over league favorite, [[Orange County Otters]] where they managed to hold the Otters running backs to 80 yards on 20 attempts. Montain's next big game came in week eleven against the [[Honolulu Hahalua]], resulting in a 14-10 comeback win. Montain recorded his first ISFL sack, and added seven tackles and one for loss. He would record two more sacks and his first ISFL penalty in the next three games. In a rough week 16 game away at Sarasota that could have sent the Hawks to the playoffs, Montain recorded two tackles and two penalties for nineteen total yards in a loss to the Sailfish to end his rookie season in the ISFL.

Nine games into the season Montain was traded, sending him back to Texas to play for the Austin Copperheads. In his first nine games Montain nearly bested previouis his stat line with thirty tackles and improved on the last season with five sacks and two tackles for loss. He would finish the season with forty-eight tackles, two for loss, and, doubling his total from the previous year, six sacks. To start the year against the Sailfish, Montain managed an early fumble recovery before nearly disappearing in the one-sided defeat. Montain and the Hawks defense managed to pick things back up in the fourth quarter to hold the Sailfish scoreless, however the offense was unable to produce leading to a loss in Sarasota. In the home opener, Montain obtained his first sack of the season on first down, which eventually lead to the Hawks holding the Butchers to a field goal. Montain, played all season as the Copperheads failed to make the playoffs. He started seven games and recorded three sacks and one forced fumble. He racked up thirty-five tackles to bring his nine hundred eleven total tackles with the Austin Copperheads franchise and nine hundred fifty total tackles in his career. This placed him thirty-third on the all time leaderboard as of the end of the season.
