Background

Teams

The DSFL North was represented by the London Royals (8-6), and the DSFL South was represented by the Dallas Birddogs (7-7).

London Royals

The London Royals quarterback Scudl McDiddl was third in passing yards (3,848) but lead the league in interceptions (16). The Royal's running back Aaron Ford had gone 806 yards for 7 touchdowns on the year putting him at 8th. The Royals leaned heavily on wide receiver duo Chopper Donquixote (82-1364-11) and Hollywood Tez (83-1294-6) (good enough for fourth and fifth in the league) for much of the production on offense.

The Royals defense faired better with Léopold Roy leading the league in tackles (111) and sacks (11) and linebacker Twenty Seven was second in interceptions (6) but their defense was in the middle of the pack for points allowed.

The Royals went 8-6 on the season and had beaten the Minnesota Grey Ducks (10-4) once in the regular season and again in the all important NFC Championship game. However, they headed into Ultimini XLIV having lost to the Birddogs in their two regular season meetings.

Ultimini Bowl XXLIV

In the season's exciting showdown between the Dallas Birddogs and the London Royals in Ultimini XLIV, the Dallas Birddogs delivered a stunning offensive performance to defeat the London Royals and secure their fourth Ultimini title in a game filled with excitement.

The game began with an unexpected hiccup for the Birddogs as quarterback Chappy Mcchapperson threw a rare interception on their first drive, giving the Royals an early opportunity to strike. Capitalising on the turnover, the Royals orchestrated a methodical drive that culminated in a 31-yard field goal by Hamm Hargreaves, putting them ahead on the scoreboard.

However, the Birddogs quickly responded with a burst of energy as Lane Frost III electrified the crowd with a remarkable 56-yard punt return, setting up Reginald Hammerfall for an easy 1-yard rushing touchdown to level the score. The momentum continued to swing in the Birddogs' favour as kicker Air Bud nailed a 50-yard field goal to extend their lead.

The Royals fought back, with Hadrian Peterson punching in a touchdown to tie the game once again. Yet, the Birddogs' offense exploded once again with Lane Frost III showcasing his playmaking abilities with a sensational 75-yard reception from Chappy Mcchapperson, reigniting the Birddogs' offense.

The back-and-forth battle continued as the Royals' [[Chopper Donquixote] found the end zone with a 22-yard reception before halftime, keeping the game tightly contested.

As the second half commenced, the Birddogs' defense stepped up with Toller Retriever delivering a timely sack on the Royals' opening possession. Then an exchange of punts provided an opportunity for the Birddogs to gain momentum, and Chappy Mcchapperson capitalised on it, leading the team on an 80-yard drive culminating in Reginald Hammerfall's second touchdown of the game, giving the Birddogs a 24-17 lead.

However, the Royals refused to relent as Peterson scored his second touchdown to level the score once again. But Lane Frost III rose to the occasion once more, hauling in a spectacular 53-yard pass from Mcchapperson to keep the Birddogs' on the front foot.

Playing with confidence and precision, Mcchapperson connected with Seventh Rounder for a 64-yard touchdown, breaking the Royals' spirit and putting the game out of reach. Air Bud then sealed the victory with a 23-yard field goal.

Although Peterson scored a late consolation touchdown for the Royals and Donquixote recovered an onside kick, the Birddogs emerged victorious, showcasing their dominance and claiming their fourth Ultimini title.

Mcchapperson was awarded MVP honors for his stellar performance, throwing for 366 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception, while Huge Yakman earned Defensive Player of the Game with 5 tackles, 1 sack, and a forced fumble.
