Dewey Greenbeans (born January 1, 2035) is an American football safety for the Dallas Birddogs of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Dewey Greenbeans was born in Miami, Florida to Katrina Reed and Gerald "Purp" Greenbeans. His parents knew he would be a great athlete watching him catch falling crabapples from their backyard tree. He excelled at baseball through his 3rd year of high school. His school's football coach convinced him to try out for the Varsity Football Team after witnessing impressive range and reaction time from the Center Fielder. Dewey's first season on the gridiron led to a league high in personal foul penalties and a conference record of passes defended. His senior year he commited only 2 penalties all season and caught an average of 1.5 Interceptions per game. He also substituted as place kicker in one game after injury to the starting kicker. Dewey won the title of Homecoming King, but could not accept the crown because he was playing in the Homecoming Game. He also was suspended for the remainder of the season for eating psilocybin mushrooms at halftime and forgetting to wear shoulderpads for the second half. Dewey Greenbeans hobbies include Magic: The Gathering, cooking, origami, geocaching, traveling, and magnets.

College career

Greenbeans started his college career as a replacement special teamer. His notable positioning and tackles on special teams opened up a chance to compete for SS and FS roles. Dewey participated in every game in his sophomore and junior seasons as a special teamer, and made an appearance as a Safety in 12 games each season, with 5 starts. An unfortunate injury to a teammate provided a Senior season starting role at Free Safety which led to early talk of potential award winning performance. Off the field activity required a 2 game voluntary suspension which removed the ability to win any awards and possibly led to the player's decision to sit out of the 2058 draft, despite leading the ACC in passes deflected and being voted Florida Sports Writer's Guild's Most Exciting Newcomer Award. Greenbeans was the first college player to sign a NIL agreement with a government tourism authority, the Icelandic Tourist Board. Dewey is best friends with former college teammate and current DSFL teammate, RB Marty Crane.

Professional career

DSFL career

Season 43: Dewey Greenbeans was added to the Dallas Bird Dogs from waivers after the team's Week 1 victory. He was immediately installed as the starting Free Safety. As the Defensive Coordinator adjusted to the new starter's skill set, Dewey began to make his presence felt on the field. Week 2 Dewey had one 1 tackle and Week 3 showed more ball-seeking ability with 4 tackles and 1 pass defended. He caught the league's attention, and a ball, with his first interception in Week 4 during a 10-point victory. Week 5 showed that it wasn't a fluke with another interception, but in a blowout loss to Portland. A quiet Week 6 passed, but Week 7 showed that Dewey has some moves: 3 tackles, and an interception returned for a touchdown that kept the team in the game, but led to a 5 point loss to London. Week 12 was a career week for Dewey: 4 tackles, 1 pass defended, and another Pick 6. Both TDs were against the eventual league champion Portland, which shows that Greenbeans excels against the best competition. Dewey was recognized with a Top Performance Award for his Week 12 heroics in a statement win.

Season 44: Dewey Greenbeans took on a new hybrid role to match a new defensive playbook. The Big Dog GMs asked Dewey to play both the Free Safety position and Cornerback position. Running downs kept Dewey in the running lanes while passing downs kept him outside. The team clearly wanted Dewey where the ball was going. Season highlights include an active Week 1 with 9 tackles and a forced fumble. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Tijuana Luchadores stomped the Birddogs 45-0 in the first of two losses. The Birddogs were able to beat all other teams at least 1 time this season. Week 2 against the Buccaneers was another spotlight week with 2 interceptions and 42 INT return yards. The team won 4 games in a row from Weeks 4 through 7, and eventually made the playoffs. Ultimately the Birddogs were eliminated in the playoffs by the Tijuana Luchadores.

Season 45: Dewey Greenbeans came back to the team pumped at the new defensive addition: his college buddy Marty Crane. Marty converted from Running Back to Strong Safety to create an epic defensive backfield for the thirsty Dallas Birddogs. Back and locked in at Free Safety, Dewey had a slow start to the season, but finished stronger than anyone could have expected. Season highlights include Week 3 where Greenbeans had his first tackle for a loss in a designed safety blitz a win over the Norfolk Seawolves. Week 5 blessed Dewey with sticky fingers, where he recovered 2 fumbles in a loss versus the Portland Pythons. Week 11 was a defensive performance for the ages, with a career high 3 interceptions in one game along with 5 tackles. Its arguable that Dewey singlehandedly kept the team in the game long enough to win against the Minnesota Grey Ducks. Dewey ended the season with a league leading 7 interceptions. The Birddogs went on to lose their game in the playoffs.

Season 46: Dewey Greenbeans started the season with a bang, showing off his skillset with 8 tackles, 3 passes defended, and a forced fumble in a Week 1 win against the Norfolk Seawolves. Week 2 was a slightly subdued performance but still respectable 7 tackles and 1 pass defended in their second staight win. Weeks 3 through 6 were the first season skid for Birddogs as they tried to just tread water, but lossed 4 straight games. Dewey was near silent in Week 3, but followed up with a forced fumble and recovery in Week 4. Week 5 was a middling performance of only tackles, but Week 6 ended the skid, even with a loss, when the Birddogs lost to Tijuana by 1 point on a last second FG miss. Dewey had a punctuating performance with 6 tackles, 3 PDs, and an interception (his first of the season). Week 7 against the London Royals proved to be the game where Greenbeans reminded the world that he's a world beater. Dewey had 3 interceptions in the game, for the 2nd time in his career. 3 wins in a row were capped off by a top performance by Dewey including a Defensive TD and Fumble Recovery against the dastardly Tijuana Luchadores. The team traded wins and losses to get to a .500 season and sneak into the playoffs with the last wildcard position. The team heroically beat their arch-nemesis Tijuana to make it to the Ultimini, where they topped the London Royals to take home the trophy.

ISFL career

Season 44: Dewey Greenbeans was selected in the 3rd Round by the Chicago Butchers in the S44 ISFL Draft (37th overall pick).
