Clark Russell Boyd (born September 19, 2013) is an American football tight end for the Sarasota Sailfish of the International Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early years

Boyd was born and raised in Rahway, New Jersey to Russell and Jane Boyd. Russell Boyd had played professional football in his native Canada; he was a linebacker for the now defunct Halifax Hammerheads from 2009 to 2016. Naturally, Clark took to football at a young age, but he also developed a passion for wrestling. Boyd attended Rahway High School where he lettered in both football and wrestling. Boyd gained traction as he lined up initially as a quarterback, but after his freshman year, grew into the position of tight end, where he met much more success. His senior year, Boyd made the All-Group, All-Conference, and All-State teams, which helped with his recruitment efforts. Though he did not receive many offers, he was happy to commit to his lifelong favorite college team: Rutgers University.

College career

Boyd was barely a true freshman, but left impact on the field. He played only in 2 games, but totaled 10 catches for 92 yards. Over the offseason Boyd was made starter and in his sophomore year made significant improvements, including scoring 4 touchdowns. His junior year would prove to be his best as he became the Big 10's top scoring tight end with 10 touchdowns off of career-high catches and yardage. In his senior year Boyd fell in the TE ranks following Rutgers's recruitment of a new receiving core. His totals were held to 26 catches, 223 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Due to his lackluster senior year, Boyd made no announcements regarding playing professionally. Boyd graduated in 2036 with a B.A. in Management Science with a minor in Politcal Science, and seemed poised to enter into the corporate world. However, midway through the its 21st season Boyd decided to enter into the ISFL.

Professional career

DSFL career

Boyd jumped straight from college ball to DSFL waivers, and was signed to the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers ahead of the 22nd ISFL season. With a mediocre performance in the 2037 Combine, Boyd was unsure of his standings with pro scouts. He entered into the ISFL Draft and the Sarasota Sailfish took him in the 11th round at pick #122. However, he would not be called up to play, and saw the his debut season with the Buccaneers.

2037 season

It was unclear exactly what role Boyd would play in Myrtle Beach's offense. Their current tight end, James Angler was more seasoned and proven. However, Boyd found himself on the field immediately. In Week 1 vs. Portland Pythons, he made 2 catches for 3 yards each, as well as 1 rush for no gain. Week 2 saw no action, with 1 dropped pass and 1 penalty. Week 3 would mark a breakout for Boyd, with 1 reception for 13 yards. With each week, his performance improved. In Week 4, he ran for 27 yards on 3 catches. In Week 5, 29 yards on 4 catches. Boyd led the Buccaneers in receptions in Week 8 against the Norfolk Seawolves, with 5 catches, though he only managed 33 yards. The following week, he led for both (5 receptions and 46 yards). Boyd's next 2 games would prove less lucrative, statistically. He managed only 4 catches across both games. In Week 13 vs. Minnesota Grey Ducks, Boyd rushed once for a measly career best of 2 yards. His best games were at the end of the season, when the playoffs were all but an impossible dream. In Week 12, Boyd scored his first touchdown and made 6 catches for 32 yards. In the Buccaneers' final game for the season, Boyd made 4 catches for 38 yards and another touchdown. His success towards the end of the season proved that Boyd was still capable of performing at his best, and that his best was still yet to come.

Boyd was drafted by the Sarasota Sailfish ahead of S22. The following season, Boyd was called up to play in the ISFL.

2038 season

Finding himself starting alongside James Angler once again, Boyd's ISFL debut started off slow. In Week 1's win against the Chicago Butchers, he saw only 1 target for 8 yards. The following week, Boyd made only 3 catches, one of which scored him his first touchdown of the season, helping bring Sarasota a victory over the reigning champions, the Colorado Yeti. A close loss to the Philadelphia Liberty in Week 4 saw him catch only 3 targets, but finally break 20 yards. The next few games would see a very limited role for Boyd. Rayne Gordon's prowess on the field was hard to match up with, at least until Week 7's loss to the Arizona Outlaws. Boyd was the most targeted receiver for the Sailfish that game, with 5 catches for 46 yards. Boyd repeated this success the following week against the Orange County Otters with 6 catches for 48 yards, once again the top target. Boyd returned to the middle of the pack for the coming weeks. Then in Week 13, he scored 1 of only 2 touchdowns the Sailfish could manage against the future champions, the Yellowknife Wraiths. The next week, in their second game against the Yeti, Boyd saw only 2 targets, but made a breakaway route resulting in a career-best run of 35 yards. With their chances of making the playoffs getting slimmer, the Sailfish kicked their team into high gear, overcoming the Liberty in Week 15, with Boyd making 4 targets for 32 yards. His best game of the season came in the last game, Week 16's home game against the Baltimore Hawks. Boyd was the most targeted and most productive receiver for the team, catching 6 passes for 58 yards; with Gordon and Michael Witheblock making long runs as wideouts. Sadly, the Sailfish did not break the required point differential to make the playoffs, therefore ending Boyd's season.

2039 season

Clark Boyd's second season in Sarasota started where his first left off. From the season-opening win against the Baltimore Hawks through Week 3's win over the Colorado Yeti, Boyd made 4 catches per game, for as many as 40 yards. In Week 2's win over the Philadelphia Liberty, Boyd rushed for a touchdown, a first for his career. Already showing improvement from the season before, Boyd was targeted for 6 passes in the Week 5 win over the Chicago Butchers. Unfortunately, he was limited in the following weeks against the Austin Copperheads and the New Orleans Second Line. Boyd returned to form in the Week 8 win over the San Jose Sabercats, where he made 5 catches for 47 yards. For the next few weeks, he returned to being a mid-range target for Dexter Banks II, but was the dominant option in the Week 11 loss to the Honolulu Hahalua, making 7 catches, albeit for only 46 yards. Similarly the next week, he was the top target with 6 catches, but only for 28 yards. For the rest of the regular season, Boyd was limited in his targets but made better yardage, finishing the regular season with 42 yards on only 3 catches. Over the course of the season, Boyd's blocking game improved dramatically, making 32 pancakes with only 1 sack allowed, an dramatic improvement from the season before. In the Sailfish's 2 post-season games Boyd played at his average pace, making 7 catches for 55 yards and hitting for 3 pancakes.
