Ultimini XXXVIII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL) for 2055 (S40). The Southern Football Conference (DSFL South) champion Bondi Beach Buccaneers defeated the Northern Football Conference (DSFL North) champion Portland Pythons, 24-21, to win their 6th Ultimini Bowl championship in 7 appearances. The game was played at The Bigloo in the blistering cold North Pole. This was the fifth time in which the Bondi Beach Buccaneers matched up with the Portland Pythons in an Ultimini Bowl. The Buccaneers won the previous matchups back in Ultimini III, Ultimini XIII, Ultimini XXIV and Ultimini XXXV. All meetings ended with the Bondi Beach Buccaneers bringing home the Ultimini Trophy.

Teams
The DSFL North was represented by the Portland Pythons, and the DSFL South was represented by the Bondi Beach Buccaneers.
Portland Pythons
After missing the playoffs the previous season with an 8-5-1 record due to tiebreakers, the Portland Pythons would go on to win the same amount of games this season. With a 8-6 record, this time the Pythons would place 1st in the conference due to tie breakers just ahead of the 8-6 London Royals. With pro bowl duo; QB Donovan Winters and RB Tyler One leading the charge the Pythons boasted an offense that was among the league best.
Bondi Beach Buccaneers
The Bondi Beach Buccaneers saw themselves end the season with an 9-5 record, a quite impressive turnaround from their abysmal s39 season in which they only managed to win 2 games. Their 9-5 record put them 2nd in the SFC, 1 game behind the Norfolk Seawolves who placed first in the conference. The Buccaneers had a well balanced team, with a very proficient pass game, featuring 3rd year quarterback Smokin Jay who led the league in TDs with 36. As well as standout wide receiver trio Plant Based, Oliver Tolliver and returning veteran Kairo Knight. This electrifying trio combined for 30+ TD's and nearly 3000 yards. Bondi Beach as a result finished 1st in scoring, averaging more than 30 points a game. On the other side of the ball the defence was stout, ranking 1st in points allowed and turnovers with 21 intercepted passes.
Playoffs
Portland started off with a fairly no nonsense victory against the 8-6 London Royals in the Semifinals, winning by a score of 49-28. Tyler One was the primary offensive standout going for 107 yards rushing with 2 rushing touchdowns.
The Buccaneers beat the 1st seeded Seawolves in the Semifinals in a game where the Buccaneers maintained control all the way through. In a hard fought 27-16 victory, the primary offensive standout of this game was WR Plant Based who went for 121 yards and a TD on just 3 receptions to lead the Buccaneers to their 7th Ultimini Bowl of all time.
Game summary
First Quarter
The game started off with a bang for the Pythons as they returned the opening kickoff for 53 yards, giving Winters great field position to work with . After a fumble by Pythons WR Nutler that was quickly recovered by Nutler himself and 4th and 3 conversion by Tyler One, The drive stalled near the 33 where they elected to go for a 50 yard field goal which was missed. The Buccaneers weren't able to capitalize on the turnover on downs as they too subsequently missed a 50ish yard field goal. On the Pythons next drive, Winters was able to quickly lead the first TD drive of the night as he was able to find Malcom Grimes for a 42 yard dart. On the Buccaneers subsequent drive, QB Smokin Jay marched the Buccaneers down the field before throwing a interception in field goal range. The Pythons were able to capitalize on the turnover with Winters throwing his 2nd TD of the day, finding Forozka Duanei on a 8 yard strike. The game was 14-0 by the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter
The Buccaneers had the ball at the second quarter and managed to get into field goal range where they were able to put their first points on the board. The teams exchanged tense defensive stands as the next 2 drives ended in punts. The Pythons quickly moved the ball down the field where Tyler One punched in the score from the 1, extending the lead to 21-3.
Third Quarter
The Buccaneers got the ball to start the second half, but the opening drive didn't go nowhere as Jay was intercepted on the 1st play of the half in their own territory. Winters looking to capitalize on this, instead was sacked on 3rd and goal by DE Action Brunson pushing them back to a 32 yard field goal which missed the uprights. The teams subsequently exchanged punts before Smokin Jay finally led the Buccaneers to their first TD drive, finding Oliver Tolliver making the score 21-10 early in the 3rd. The Pythons would go scoreless in the 3rd while The Buccaneers added another TD drive with QB Smokin Jay finding his favorite target Plant Based on a 56 yard bomb, Buccaneers would go for 2 with the 2 point conversion failing. The score being a manageable 21-16 heading into the 4th.
Fourth Quarter
To start the 4th quarter the 2 teams exchanged another tense defensive but eventually, Buccaneers made some headway with Smokin Jay finding WR Kairo Knight for a TD and the subsequent 2 point attempt being converted, The Buccaneers took their first lead of the game late in the 4th making the score 24-21. After the teams exchanged some punts thereafter, The Pythons found themselves deep in their own territory with a little over a minute to go but the drive ended up stalling as a turnover on downs effectively ended this close contested game.
Plant Based wrapped up an improbable come from behind victory with a final stat line of 5 receptions, 131 yards and a TD. This was enough to earn him his first Ultimini Offensive Player of the Game Award. On defence, Rolud Onyxgut had 6 tackles, 1 sack and 2 tackles for losses. He took home the Ultimini Defensive Player of the Game Award. This marked the Buccaneers 6th Championship.
