Smokin Jay (born November 9, 1992) is an American football Safety who currently plays professionally for THE Orange County Otters of the ISFL. He played college football for Last Chance U and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks in 2053.

Early years

Smokin Jay was born in a small Indiana Town named Santa Clause. This little town is named after - you guessed it - Santa Claus, the legendary North Poler who brings kids toys on Christmas. Ironically, it was the gift of a toy football as a young child that led to his future career as a quarterback. Jay learned to throw a football at a young age. When ever one of his siblings would make him mad, he would throw the football as hard as he could at them from across the room. Eventually his parents got him into organized sports and this is where Smokin Jay began channelling that inner negativity into something productive on the field. Although he constantly argued with teammates, and refused to listen to his coaches, his talent helped lead him to many all star teams and resulted in Jay having an illustrious high school football career in Indiana.

College career

After an illustrious high school football career that many thought would lead Jay to a powerhouse school such as Ball State University, Jay shocked the nation and went to Vanderbilt instead. At Vandy, Smokin Jay lit the practice field on fire. However even with all of his talent, his lack of caring led to constant clashes with his coaches which eventually led to his dismissal from the football program there. Eventually he found his home at Last Chance University, which was the first team he played on that had players who had a similar non caring attitude. Jay - finally feeling at home - lit up the community college football scene in route to 3 straight national championships through his first 3 years. At that point, he shot up draft boards in the ISFL, and decided this would be the next step for him in his career. Smokin Jay - with the signature cigarette in mouth - Declared for the ISFL Draft by saying, " I am excited to make money in the ISFL. I guess I will play football there next."

Smokin Jay was a prospect in the ISFL / DSFL. He decided to join the league at the trade deadline for the DSFL, which has led to him being placed on waivers. Scouting has now begun with many interested teams reaching out to guage interest on the Last Chance U star. Legendary ISFL bust and interception king Ryan Negs has been a close mentor for Smoking Jay. Many draft analysts pray that Somkin Jay does not take too much advice from Ryan Negs, and instead uses his superior talent and instincts to lead him to a successful professional career. One anonymous GM was quote as saying, "Smokin Jay is great. We see all the potiential in the world in that kid. Hopefully he distances himself from the likes of Negs Icebear and others who are proven to be bad influences." At the DSFL Combine, Smokin Jay became the first player to ever quit a drill. When asked why he would quit when scouts were watching, he is quoted as saying, "because I don't care."

Bondi Beach Buccaneers

Smokin Jay was drafted in the second round of the season 38 DSFL draft by the Bondi Beach Bucs. The scouting process was a fun one for Smokin’, he had every team reach out to him. Going into the draft, he was quoted by ESPN as saying that his expectation was that the Kansas City Coyotes, Bondi Beach Bucs, or possibly Norfolk, due to his affiliation, would be who selected him. The draft came and went and he was happy to be in Bondi Beach and the team was happy to finally have their quarterback of the future.

This happiness ended soon for both sides as Smokin Jay had one of the worst passing performances in league history. In the process of leading his team to the worst record of all time (0 wins – 14 losses), Smokin Jay broke the single game record for interceptions thrown in one game. That fabled game versus the Norfolk Seawolves saw him complete only 50% of his passes in route to 7 interceptions.

Season 39

The 39th season of the DSFL marked one of hopeful redemption for Bondi Beach’s own Smokin Jay. After a rookie season that left team decision makers with more questions than answers, this was a pivotal year Smokin Jay headed into. After breaking the all time record for interceptions in his rookie season, one goal of his was to protect the ball better.

Bondi as a whole entered this season in year two of what experts view as a multi year rebuild. As a whole, Smokin Jay turned in a season where he lived up to his gunslinger label. He threw only 21 interceptions (good by his standards) and had nearly 30 total touchdowns. Unfortunately, the improvements were not enough, as Bondi ended the season with the worst record in the league for a second consecutive season and ended with the first overall pick in the draft. With one season left for Smokin Jay to make his impact, all eyes will be on him and the Bondi Buccaneers in season 40.

Season 40

Smokin’ Jay entered season number 40 with more questions than answers in his career. How did he even get drafted? Why do his teammates hate him? Those were some of the typical questions he was surrounded with prior to the season beginning. “The good thing about questions, is they have answers.” Smokin’ Jay went onto say at a preseason media event. Those words echoed loudly as truths once the season began.

New leadership on Bondi Beach meant new life for this quarterback. This season was Jay’s most impressive by a wide measure regardless of the statistic used as a measuring stick. Jay led the Bondi Beach Bucs all the way to an Ultimini show down vs Portland that ultimately led to a victory and a change of perception of Jay around the league. In this game though, rumor has it that Jay was severely injured. His playing career in the ISFL is potentially in doubt, only time will tell if he can recover to extend his professional career.

Season 41

The repetitive motion of throwing so many touchdown passes in season 40 was one that took a toll on Smokin Jay’s shoulder. As a result, after his lone successful season as a passer, he was forced into near retirement. Just when all hope seemed lost, the doctor came up with an idea and proposed Smokin just switches positons. After long and hard thoughts, Smokin realized he was great at throwing interceptions, so figured as a safety, he would maybe know what to look for from opposing quarterbacks.

Smokin Jay the safety was now born! Jay played the entire season at strong safety, but failed to make too much of an impact. His highlight was a pick 6 midway through the season. Overall, The Orange County Otters once again exceeded expectations though, and made the playoffs for their second consecutive season. Time will tell if Smokin Jay can raise the level of his game in this defensive secondary.

Season 42

Season number two at safety was one similar to season number one for Smokin Jay. This season he found himself in a new role, one which found him playing a hybrid role between safety and linebacker. Jay excelled at defending against the run. He finished with a career high of 81 tackles for the season, but still did not get any tackles for loss. He did finish with 7 sacks on the season which was also a career high and recorded another two interceptions on the season. Smokin Jay hopes to increase his statistical output next season. There have been rumors that he will be playing more of a centerfield role next season to help the defense with protect against deep passes. This was a specific area that Jay struggled with last season, where he routinely allowed tight ends to get wide open over the middle for long touchdowns. The Otters had a down season during season 42 and hope to rebound next season – Jay’s improvement will be paramount to his team’s success.

Season 43

Season 43 was one of excitement for Smokin Jay. Coming off of a fairly successful campaign the year prior, he no long had the doubters that he once did. On the field, the Orange County Otters were still in the midst of their rebuild, and Smokin Jay found himself in a new position on the team’s TPE ladder. He was now one of the official best 3 players on the team. This led to him for the first time ever being a true leader on his team. Unfortunately, his team missed the playoffs once again. In a hotly contested division, the Otters ended up missing the playoffs and ending the season with the 5th pick in the draft. Only time will tell if Orange County can over come what plagued them this season, and if Smokin Jay has really turned his life and his career around and become a team captain and leader.

Season 44

The 44th season of the International Simulation Football league was one that brought more honors to Smokin Jay. From a once inept DSFL QB, Jay has officially turned his career around and has been a consistent and bonafide playmaker in the secondary for the Orange County Otters. This season saw his numbers a little down overall but it all still resulted in a pro bowl nod. He had a career low 60 tackles, but his season was highlighted by the 2 touchdowns that he had on turnovers during the season.

Although he helped lead the Otters defensive secondary to new heights, the Otters as a whole continued to faulter. They ended their season with a record of 6 wins and 10 losses. This is a team that you can not base on their record alone though. Boasting one of the younger rosters in the league and a safety like Smokin Jay commanding the defense, Otter nation has plenty to look forward to in the near future.

Season 45

Smokin Jay entered season 45 as a bonafide superstar. Coming off of back to back all pro seasons, there may have been questions about Orange County’s defense, but there wasn’t one about him on the back end. The season started off disastrously for the squad from Orange County. Dropping to 0-4 with a few very winnable games, the season outlook seemed bleak right away. As the season progressed, Jay turned up his level of effort to help lead a team trying to come back from the brink of early playoff elimination. He ended the season with the most sacks he has ever had in his career, and kept his streak alive of getting at least one touchdown per season defensively. All in all, time will tell if he gets another nod as an all pro. Smokin Jay, along with Orange County was able to rebound and have a good season. After starting 0-4, they finished the year with a win and in game. Unfortunately, they were not able to win and thus missed the playoffs again.
