Tyler "the Mountain" Montain (born October 24, 2014) is an American football defensive tackle for the Baltimore Hawks of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). Montain was drafted second overall in the 2038 ISFL Draft (S23) by the Baltimore Hawks. Previously, he was drafted second overall in the 2037 DSFL Draft (S22) by the Dallas Birddogs. Montain spent his first four professional games with the Tijuana Luchadores as a waiver claim. He is the brother of Asher Montain.

Early years

Born in Long Beach, CA to Elliot and Margot, Tyler showed an aptitude for athletic ability at a very early age. He attended Los Alamitos High School and lettered all four years in football for the Griffins. Averaging 115 tackles per season, Montain quickly made a name for himself at the state level.

Montain's athletic ability expanded off the football field and into power lifting and track and field where he excelled. In the bench press championship, Montain finished second with a a 415 pound lift. Montain also competed in squat (560 lbs) and clean jerk (320 lbs). As a track & field competitor, Montain competed at the state level in shot put, discus, and hammer throw.

Widely recognized as a three-star prospect, Montain was heavily recruited by many of the country's best schools. He was rated a top 50 defensive tackle nationally, and a top 75 recruit for the state of California.

College career

Montain accepted a scholarship to Louisiana State University, where he played all four years without missing a game. During his career, he totaled 193 tackles, including 42 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. In his first game with the Tigers, Montain recorded 2 sacks and 7 tackles for loss against rival Alabama.

Montain intended to declare for the DSFL after his Junior year for the 2036 (S21) Season, but was persuaded to spend another year in school by members of the coaching staff. When the team's season ended in a bitter loss in the SEC Championship, Montain decided he needed a better source of advice and was signed by semi-renowned sports agent Chett Ching. Under the advice of Mr. Ching, Montain entered Season 21 of the DSFL and was placed on waivers. Tyler was immediately picked up by the Tijuana Luchadores

Tijuana Luchadores

Montain entered the DSFL after the 2036 (S21) season's trade deadline and was placed on waivers. He was signed to a temporary contract by the Tijuana Luchadores who needed to add depth on their defensive line. He spent four games with the Luchadores and recorded six tackles during the team's playoff push. Tijuana failed to make the playoffs, however, which sent Montain back into the draft pool.

Dallas Birddogs

Montain was selected second overall by the Dallas Birddogs in the 2037 (S22) DSFL Draft. As a defensive leader, Montain was made the first team captain of the 2037 (S22) season. Tyler started all 14 games in his first full professional season, racking up solid numbers as a "Troublemaker". Montain, along with Yuuto Kira Cloudera made up the core of the defensive line for the Birddogs, leading to the fourth best run-stopping performance of the season. Tyler recorded five sacks on the season, putting him in second place for all defensive tackles. He also recorded thirty-five tackles (tied for sixth) and one fumble recovery (tied for first) on the season. The Birddogs started the year with a 1-3 performance in the preseason utilizing fewer schemes in order to mask their strategy going into the regular season. They started off the regular season with a huge win at home over the Minnesota Grey Ducks. Montain started the game, but didn't appear to be able to beat Minnesota's stacked offensive line recording zero tackles and one penalty. In week two, the Birddogs traveled to Myrtle Beach for an important conference match up. The Birddogs were trounced 26-6, but Montain's performance improved as he tied Blade McCoy for most tackles on the day with eight. The rest of the season followed the pattern, with Dallas rarely having any record other than .500. They would end the season even at 7-7 narrowly missing a playoff spot with a loss in Week 11 to the Norfolk Seawolves. In a defensive struggle that saw Montain finish with two tackles and a sack, the Seawolves managed to drive to the Dallas 29 and kick the game winning field goal with two seconds left on the clock. In his second to last game with Dallas, Tyler was able to play against his brother, Asher Montain. Neither of the Montain brothers had great games, with Tyler recording only two tackles. Both brothers did, however, receive a 15 yard penalty. The last game of the season was played away against the Kansas City Coyotes where the Birddogs won 31-23. Montain recorded four tackles to finish out his DSFL career.

In preparation for the NSFL draft, Montain participated in the NSFL Scouting Combine. As a power lifter, it was no surprise to see Montain record 47 reps on the bench press, tying the second highest score ever recorded in the event.
