Montain was selected second overall by the Dallas Birddogs in the 22 DSFL Draft. As a defensive leader, Montain was made the first team captain of the 22 season. Tyler started all 14 games in his first full professional season, racking up solid numbers as a "Troublemaker". Montain, along with Yuuto Kira Cloudera made up the core of the defensive line for the Birddogs, leading to the fourth best run-stopping performance of the season. Tyler recorded five sacks on the season, putting him in second place for all defensive tackles. He also recorded thirty-five tackles (tied for sixth) and one fumble recovery (tied for first) on the season. The Birddogs started the year with a 1-3 performance in the preseason utilizing fewer schemes in order to mask their strategy going into the regular season. They started off the regular season with a huge win at home over the Minnesota Grey Ducks. Montain started the game, but didn't appear to be able to beat Minnesota's stacked offensive line recording zero tackles and one penalty. In week two, the Birddogs traveled to Myrtle Beach for an  important conference match up. The Birddogs were trounced 26-6, but Montain's performance improved as he tied Blade McCoy for most tackles on the day with eight. The rest of the season followed the pattern, with Dallas rarely having any record other than .500. They would end the season even at 7-7  narrowly missing a playoff spot with a loss in Week 11 to the Norfolk Seawolves. In a defensive struggle that saw Montain finish with two tackles and a sack, the Seawolves managed to drive to the Dallas 29 and kick the game winning field goal with two seconds left on the clock. In his second to last game with Dallas, Tyler was able to play against his brother, Asher Montain. Neither of the Montain brothers had great games, with Tyler recording only two tackles. Both brothers did, however, receive a 15 yard penalty. The last game of the season was played away against the Kansas City Coyotes where the Birddogs won 31-23. Montain recorded four tackles to finish out his DSFL career.
