+ | Devin credited his success this season to the work he'd put in before Week 1 kick off, getting together with a specialist cornerback coach and training with some of the very best in the league at his position, including Baltimore cornerback Dino Nuggets. Getting a better understanding of the position gave a natural feel to his game, and he often found himself subconsciously getting in the way of passes through his sense for what route the receiver was trying to run and the ability to read the ball out of the quarterback's hands better. While these were only small changes, they resulted in big outcomes on the field when it came to breaking up passes. While he was obviously delighted in all interviews he carried out with the results he was able to achieve, he did mention that the final step in his game is to hold onto the ball a little more regularly, and he would like to increase his interception total in S51.

+ | The main downside for the season however, was the Fire Salamanders' poor overall performance as a team, with them once again being a long way from playoff contention and ended with a record far short of where they hoped to be before the season started. This raises difficult questions about Devin's long term future, as although he has committed to play S51 with the team, he has made it clear he would like to play a playoff game before too long.

+ | Devin has always been a team first player, but speculation has run wild given some of the comments he has made in the media and insiders in the league speculate that he might not stick around for too much longer if playoff success isn't on the cards. The No Trade Clause in his contract and seasonal options allow for him to really dictate his own destiny and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out beyond this season.

Contents
Early years
Devin Jones was born in Liberty City, an area in the south of Miami to Marcus and Trina Jones. Marcus is a former ISFL player, having played a handful of seasons with the Arizona Outlaws, and from an early age imparted a desire in Devin to go on to play at the professional level. Devin excelled as a high school athlete in basketball and football, and by his junior year was the starting wide receiver for the Hi-Tides. An injury sustained at the beginning of his senior year however saw him miss the vast majority of the season, and he was only able to take the field for 3 games that year, struggling to show what he was capable of in the games he was able to play in. Scholarship opportunities were few and far between, and it looked as if he might have to take a more unconvential route to the ranks of elite football.
College career
After his difficulty in attracting scholarship opportunities during the recruiting process, Devin was preparing to attend community college and play football there before he received a last minute opportunity to join the Cincinnati Bearcats for their training camp. Due to a high level of competition at the wide receiver position, Devin tried out as a cornerback and was able to earn a spot as a walk on that season. Being able to hit the ground running, Devin earned a spot among the team's starting cornerbacks as a true freshman, and from then on would excel in his new role. His freshman season saw him tally 2 interceptions, recording one of which for a touchdown in addition to 26 tackles. As a sophomore, Devin had improved sufficiently to sit atop the Bearcat's depth chart as their number one cornerback, and was able to assert himself as one of the best players in his conference, earning recognition as a First-team All-Big 12 player. His junior year would be his final as a Bearcat, and saw Devin establish himself as one of the very best to play his position in the country. He tallied 5 interceptions on the season, two of which were turned into touchdowns, and ended his career as a First-team All-American, in addition to being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Dallas Birddogs
S44
Devin joined the Dallas Birddogs as a pre-draft waiver claim toward the end of S44, being named a starter on defense instantly and being a part of the team's push for a playoff berth for that season. The Birddogs were able to make it into the postseason, where they unfortunately lost to the Tijuana Luchadores in a closely fought contest. Devin posted fairly impressive numbers in the short time he played for the Birddogs, the highlight of which being an interception in their loss to the Luchadores, and would go into the upcoming DSFL draft as one of the top defensive back prospects in the class.
London Royals
S45
Devin was drafted in the third round of the S45 DSFL draft by the London Royals. Even though he was believed to be one of the more advanced prospects in the class at the time, his slide gave him a sense of drive to demonstrate exactly why he should be looked at as one of the premier players available in the following season's ISFL draft. Starting the season as the number one cornerback on the Royal's depth chart, Devin was one of the bright spots on a Royals' team that endured a tough season, posting 3 interceptions (one of which was taken all the way for a pick six) and 12 passes defended, along with 3 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The Royals were a long way from playoff contention and ended the season with a 4-10 record for the second season in a row, but Devin's strong performances and continued development were enough to attract interest from ISFL scouts and it was believed that he had the potential to be a first round pick in the following draft.
ISFL
Berlin Fire Salamanders
S46
Prior to the S46 season, Devin was drafted in the first round of the S46 ISFL Draft by the Berlin Fire Salamanders with the 5th overall pick. The Fire Salamanders announced shortly after that he would be called up to the team as a true rookie.
Devin spent his rookie season in Berlin playing primarily as the team's nickelback, finding a role as the third CB in a cornerback room headlined by aging star Charlie Thorsen. Although opportunities were fairly limited, Devin was clear that although he wouldn't be taking up a star role immediately, his rookie season represented a great opportunity to learn from those around him and attempt to establish a foundation he could build on in future seasons. Given the limited role he was slated to play, Devin was happy with the contributions he was able to make, his numbers being headlined by his 4 sacks and 8 pass deflections. Berlin struggled as a team, finishing up the season with a 5-11 record, the third worst in the league, despite hoping for a playoff berth before the season began. The team looked to enter a rebuilding phase at the conclusion of the season, one in which Devin is likely to play a major role as a key building block on defense in S47 and beyond.
S47
S47 saw Devin's role with the Fire Salamanders elevated to where he would be playing as the team's CB2, taking on a higher level of responsibility and facing a tougher standard of competition than he had seen in his rookie year. Despite the difficulties this posed, Devin was able to rise to the occasion, improving his stats from his rookie season and demonstrating the level of play that he believed he was capable of. Despite another difficult rebuilding season for the team, who finished with a 6-10 record and well short of a playoff berth, Devin was able to enjoy some individual highlights including notching his first career interception and his first career pick-six, both of which were moments of great significance to him and goals he had set himself before the season had began.
Another year of hard work in the gym and on the practice fields has led to significant improvement for Devin off the field also, and he believes that he is primed to truly break out after demonstrating improvement in his sophomore year. S47 was a year of growth for both Devin and the team, and the improvements in his game demonstrated here should allow him to truly emerge as a cornerback of note in S48.
S48
Going into a new season, the reality of what the Fire Salamanders might be able to expect was not lost on Devin. Facing what was likely to be another difficult season of rebuilding as the team continued to grow, Devin's main goals for the season consisted of improving his individual performances and earning a big new contract with the Fire Salamanders that would set him up for years to come.
Devin was arguably successful in both areas, signing a new 9 season deal with the team while improving his statistics from the previous season significantly, doubling his interception total and improving the number of passes defended. While the Fire Salamanders as a team arguably stagnated from the previous season, posting an identical 6-10 record and being a long way out of playoff contention, the team arguably showed growth with the performance of some of its younger players and there were clear reasons for a player like Devin to be enthused about what might come next.
Although it was far from a perfect year, the individual growth that Devin demonstrated and the outlook for the future left him and the team's fans positive about what it is they might be able to expect going forward.
S49
During what was another difficult season for the Fire Salamanders, Devin posted another respectable season in terms of personal statistics, although it was still short of the Pro Bowl level which he has desperately been trying to reach. A slight decline in his interception tally from the previous season aside, Devin proved himself to be a capable number 1 corner in the ISFL, and established himself as a true threat when quarterbacks went to his side of the field.
Issues began to hit the rumour mill toward the end of the season however that Devin had grown frustrated with the slow improvement the Fire Salamanders had seen in their performance since he joined the team, with the team still being a long way from playoff contention after 4 years of playing for them. It was rumoured by ISFL Insiders that if team performance wasn’t improved this season, Devin could be a candidate to expire free agency options at the end of S50, although the player himself refused to substantiate this and instead instructed his agents to put out a statement saying he was a Fire Salamanders player and that was all he was focused on.
S50
After seemingly not living up to his own standards on the field in his first four seasons in the league, Devin showed during S50 exactly what he was capable of as he delivered the type of season that saw him acknowledged as one of the very best at his position in the league. Earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honours for his contributions to the Fire Salamanders on defense, the highlight of Devin's season was surpassing the previous ISFL PD record by a significant amount, totalling 52 for the season and returning one of the best ever cornerback performances over the length of a full season. With this in mind, Devin ended the season motivated to look to build on this and launch a sustained run of form over the course of a few seasons.
Devin credited his success this season to the work he'd put in before Week 1 kick off, getting together with a specialist cornerback coach and training with some of the very best in the league at his position, including Baltimore cornerback Dino Nuggets. Getting a better understanding of the position gave a natural feel to his game, and he often found himself subconsciously getting in the way of passes through his sense for what route the receiver was trying to run and the ability to read the ball out of the quarterback's hands better. While he was obviously delighted in all interviews he carried out with the results he was able to achieve, he did mention that the final step in his game is to hold onto the ball a little more regularly, and he would like to increase his interception total in S51.
The main downside for the season however, was the Fire Salamanders' poor overall performance as a team, with them once again being a long way from playoff contention and ended with a record far short of where they hoped to be before the season started. This raises difficult questions about Devin's long term future, as although he has committed to play S51 with the team, he has made it clear he would like to play a playoff game before too long.
Devin has always been a team first player, but speculation has run wild given some of the comments he has made in the media and insiders in the league speculate that he might not stick around for too much longer if playoff success isn't on the cards. The No Trade Clause in his contract and seasonal options allow for him to really dictate his own destiny and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out beyond this season.
