Charlie Thorsen (born October 24, 2029) is an American football cornerback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Notre Dame (ND) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Born in Lincoln, NE to Arthur and Molly, Charlie Thorsen was involved in athletic pursuits from an early age. Believing in a healthy lifestyle, the Thorsen family all competed in various events. Arthur was a simple man and spent most of his time running. 5K runs, 10K runs, and even Marathons, were a common weekend activity for Charlie and his father. Charlie's mother was much more organized, playing keeper for a local rec soccer league which she brought Charlie to for practices and matches. The family moved from Lincoln to Fremont once Charlie showed some promise so that he could attend Archbishop Bergan, one of the best schools in the state.

Identified as a three-star prospect very shortly after his two interception High School debut, Thorsen was approached by multiple different college programs. He had visited Indiana once as a child and had fond memories of the trip and ultimately decided to accept a scholarship away from his home state.

College career

Thorsen accepted an offer to play football for Notre Dame. As a freshman, Thorsen played in 13 games and started 7 of them. He lead all true freshman with 4 interceptions including a clutch pick six to seal the victory for the school's first bowl game win in several seasons.

His second season with the Fighting Irish proved troublesome. Poised to be a breakout starter, Thorsen broke his arm after only four games. After recovering he made it back in time to join the team to help guarantee another trip to a bowl game. Unfortunately, this time they were unable to win after allowing a last second field goal.

After a successful offseason of training, Thorsen came back stronger than ever and managed to start all 12 games in the season. The team did not manage to reach another bowl game, however, Thorsen's personal stat line was enough that he was convinced to declare for the upcoming DSFL draft.

Professional career

DSFL career

Kansas City Coyotes

Thorsen entered the DSFL in 2050 (S35) and was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Coyotes. The Coyotes were fighting to maintain their playoff berth with a very young cornerback corps, and Thorsen's skills and experience put him on the field quickly. While he did not rack up an amazing stat line, he did a great job at keeping opposing receivers in check and helped the Coyotes push all the way to the Ultimini. Unfortunately, the Coyotes could not overcome the Norfolk Seawolves and lost in what was a much closer game than the scoreboard would indicate. After this game, Thorsen was placed back into the DSFL entry draft where he would be selected in the third round by the Tijuana Luchadores.

Tijuana Luchadores

Thorsen made his way south of the border to play for the Luchadores in his first, full professional season. His team had several star defensive backs on the team already, so his coaches put him in touch with a bulking coach so that Thorsen could gain weight and put him to work in the front seven as a linebacker. He bounced around between inside and outside, but as he got a better understanding of the game Thorsen ended up playing mostly outside linebacker. Thorsen put up an impressive stat line, getting better each week throughout the season. Leading the league's linebackers in Passes Defensed, Thorsen also put up respectable numbers in every other important defensive category. After a long campaign where the Luchadores only dropped two games in the regular season, they would go on to face the Bondi Beach Buccaneers in the Conference Championship winning a close game by only three points. This lead to what was expected to be a shootout against one of the other best teams in the league, the Portland Pythons. Unfortunately for Portland, the Luchadores won easily in a twenty-seven to three rout earning Thorsen an Ultimini trophy after narrowly missing it the season before.

ISFL career

Berlin Fire Salamanders

Thorsen was selected first overall in the 2052 (S37) ISFL draft by the Berlin Fire Salamanders. He was switched back to Cornerback and called up to the ISFL immediately. As a rookie playing in their first year in the league, Thorsen did not have a lot of expectations placed on him. He played as the third cornerback for the Fire Salamanders, mostly playing in the slot in Nickel packages. He played in all sixteen games, earning nine starts and amassing twenty-nine total tackles and only missing four tackles on the season. His best game of the season was week seven against the Philadelphia Liberty, where he amassed five tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. In week twelve against the Yellowknife Wraiths, Thorsen got his first ISFL interception and returned it for twenty-four yards. In week fifteen against the Colorado Yeti, Thorsen earned his first ISFL sack. The Fire Salamanders, relying on their young defense, managed to go seven and nine and finished in sixth in the NSFC. The Fire Salamanders were expected to do much worse going into the season, but proved that their young defense is filled with future all-stars.

In Thorsen's second season with the Fire Salamanders, he was moved to the starting Cornerback role. It was a rough season for such a a young player, but Thorsen held his own amassing a whopping eighty-five tackles and only missing two tackles the entire season. He was toward the bottom of the league in catch against percentage with a 69.78% rating, but deflected twenty-one passes against some of the league's best wide outs on the way to the number one seed and Division Championship. Thorsen and the Fire Salamanders went on to narrowly beat the Yellowknife Wraiths in the NSFC Championship Game which will go down as one of Thorsen's best career games. During the NSFC Championship game, Thorsen totaled five Tackles, two defended passes, and two interceptions. For the Ultimus, Thorsen was moved to the right of the defensive formation putting him and fellow Corner, Tae Dawson, in more favorable matchups. Ultimately, the Arizona Outlaws repeated as Ultimus Champions leaving Berlin with their third franchise Ultimus loss.

As a third year veteran of the ISFL, Charlie Thorsen went into a contract year with an early season extension that would see him play in Berlin for at least one more season. With the pressure to perform removed, Thorsen had another solid performance for a young corner. Amassing ninety-one tackles and only missing one, Thorsen continued to show his skills as an open field defender. He managed to nab one interception on the season which was less than his sophomore effort, but only by one. He put up eighteen pass deflections, which was pretty similar to his previous season as well. Thorsen got much better throughout the season, despite the team regressing significantly. With the second to worst record in the league, the Fire Salamanders failed to reach the postseason ending Thorsen and Berlin's season early. Thorsen managed to lower his catch against percent down to 64.86%, nearly five full points below his previous season's mark. Thorsen is poised for a breakout year going into a contract season.

Going into his fourth ISFL Season, Thorsen signed a long term extension which would likely see him spend the rest of his career in Berlin. With that out of the way, Thorsen posted one of the best stat lines of his career including his career highs for interceptions, passes deflected, and forced fumbles. Unfortunately, the team would again fall short of the playoffs despite Thorsen's performance. His season highlight came in week twelve against he Colorado Yeti where Thorsen scored the first touchdown of his ISFL career. In week seven, also against the Yeti, he set his personal record for most interception return yards at fifty-four. In week four against the Baltimore Hawks, Thorsen set his personal record for tackles at ten. Thorsen's season ended as a success, and when asked about his extension he was quoted as saying, "This team is something special. I'm looking forward to spending my career in Berlin and ultimately winning an Ultimus."

Season 41 was a slump for Thorsen and, the Fire Salamanders, as he failed to hit any of the marks he set in the previous season and for the first time in his ISFL career failed to record a single interception. Thorsen started off the year as the clear number one cornerback for the team, but when the New Orleans Second Line decided to sell off assets and enter a rebuild, the Fire Salamanders bought and brought in several new players. One of the better players added to an already strong defensive unit was The Stig, an extremely gifted cornerback. Thorsen and Stig split the primary role for the remainder of the season with Stig playing primary in 3-3-5 sets and Thorsen taking over in base 3-4 sets. This allowed the Berlin defense the ability to confuse opposing offenses and force unfavorable matchups. While this did lead to Berlin holding the number one passing defense in the league as well as allowing the fewest yards, it unfortunately did not help out on the offensive side of the ball where Berlin struggled throughout the season. Berlin would ultimately finish last in the NSFC and missing the playoffs again.

Berlin went through a resurgence in Season 42, making the second Ultimus appearance in Thorsen's career. The Fire Salamanders went 9-7 through the regular season in a brutally competitive NSFC. In the wildcard round, Berlin took on the reigning champions in Cape Town, and managed to eke out a three point victory. The Crash had beat the Fire Salamanders twice during the regular season, but was unable to do it a third time. In the Conference Championship game, the Fire Salamanders faced the Baltimore Hawks, who were an especially up and coming team. Berlin had beaten them twice in the regular season, which left the game in doubt due to the difficulty of beating a team three times in the same season. In the end, the Fire Salamanders had no issues putting Baltimore away. Ultimately, the Fire Salamanders were not able to beat the Arizona Outlaws in the championship game despite reaching the game as the third seed. Thorsen played well personally, snagging four interceptions, the his personal best in a single season. He also notched 33 passes defensed, which was also a personal record. The Fire Salamanders ended the season with a bitter loss, but immediately began preparing for their next attempt.

Unfortunately Season 43 was another struggle for the Fire Salamanders. Thorsen put together a fairly average season compared to his previous seasons, though he did miss a career high six tackles. He did not achieve any personal bests for individual stats this season. The Fire Salamanders started the season off fairly well winning four of their first seven games before losing four straight games. With four games left, the Fire Salamanders were likely to miss the playoffs after an excellent season. However, the team surprised and won three straight to put themselves back in the race. Unfortunately, they were unable to beat Sarasota in week sixteen which put them even with both Colorado and Sarasota in record. They had the better Conference record than Sarasota, but were tied with Colorado. Since they split games with Colorado it would go to points for, and the Yeti had put up four more points then Berlin despite the Fire Salamanders allowing fifty fewer points against. Unfortunately, the Fire Salamanders' season ended prematurely and they had to start focusing on the next season.
