Philippe Carter (born January 30, 1995) is a retired American football cornerback. He played for the Colorado Yeti, the Arizona Outlaws, the Las Vegas Legion and the Yellowknife Wraiths of the National Simulation Football League before retiring in 2023. He played college football for Colorado State before being drafted by the Colorado Yeti in the 2016 ISFL Draft (S1).

Early years

Philippe Carter was born in New Orleans to Pauline and Pierre Carter. His father played as a wide receiver for Colorado State so Philippe was always interested in the sport and dreamed of following in his father's footsteps. He was part of all the football teams during his academic years and eventually settled for the position of cornerback.

College career

Like any young player, Carter had to show his potential to the coaching staff when he first arrived. He quickly made an impression and started the Rams' last ten games of the season, getting 3 interceptions and 9 pass deflections. He'd eventually stay with the Rams for 3 years, averaging 7 interceptions and 29 pass deflections per season.

It was also in college that he met his best friend, Wyatt Fulton, who influenced the Yeti's management in drafting him so high.

2016 NSFL Draft Combine

Carter declared for the 2016 ISFL Draft (S1). It was established early on that he would wear the Yeti's colours for his first professional season, and it was confirmed when they called his name third during draft night.

Struggling to make a name for himself, his first season wasn't what was expected of a third overall selection. Antoine Delacour, Dermot Lavelle and Alex Hayden were just a few cornerbacks that showed more promise than him. Being a middle of the pack team, the Yeti still managed to reach the first Ultimus Bowl before being crushed by the Arizona Outlaws 6-29.

2017 (S2) was disappointing for the team since the Yeti failed the make the playoffs. What was even more difficult was that they had the same number of wins as the Wraiths, but Yellowknife had more points scored. Carter had similar statistics to his first season's.

The new Yeti management decided they'd move on without Carter after he refused to sign an extension to his three-year deal. He was traded to the Arizona Outlaws just a few hours after being placed on the trading block. Although the American never made his intentions to leave the team public, "not to hurt the organization", the Yeti saw in his refusal to sign an indication that he didn't want to continue his career with the Yeti.

His first season with the Outlaws was what many consider his best in his career. He nearly doubled his total of passes defended, tripled his number of interceptions and maintained his amount of tackles. It would also be with the Outlaws that he'd win his first Ultimus (Ultimus Bowl III).

Despite the Outlaws' victory and the relief of finally winning a championship, Carter decided to sign with the Las Vegas Legion in free agency. Many aspects influenced his decision, like helping a young team find more success and playing with Fulton again. While the Legion had a pretty mediocre season, Carter maintained good statistics and got new responsibilities, like punt returning. His stay in Las Vegas wasn't very long, though, because he moved to Yellowknife for the following season.

Carter concluded his career with the Wraiths, playing four seasons with them and winning the Ultimus for the second time in 2022 (S7). He announced his retirement during 2023 (S8).

Personal life

Carter was raised as a Catholic but religion occupies no place in his life. He is a single child.

He married fellow Colorado State alumni Nadine Villeneuve, originally from Amos, Québec, Canada, in 2015. Wyatt Fulton acted as his best man. The couple have two children together.

Carter and his family currently reside in New Orleans, where he frequently participates in charity events organized by the NSFL. He proudly wears his Wraiths jersey to all of them.
