Reginald Shrubbery (born March 2, 2032) is an American football runningback for the Orange County Otters of the International Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early years

Reginald Shrubbery was born on March 2nd, 2032 in San Diego, California. He is a member of the famously athletic Shrub family (his cousin Reggie Shrub, plays professional baseball in the PBE). Reginald's father felt that he was destined for great things and a highfalutin life, so he gave Reginald the last name "Shrubbery" instead of "Shrub." Reginald didn't have any siblings growing up, so he spent much of his childhood playing sports with Reggie, who is ten years his elder. Reggie never took it easy on Reginald and he found himself practicing whenever he had free time. He was determined to beat his older cousin. When Reginald was 12 years old, that day finally came. The two were playing "Oklahoma Drill" in the backyard and Reginald shook the crap out of the now Pro baseball player Reggie. He looked at Reginald and said, "You got skills, kid. You gonna be in the ISFL one day."

College career

After winning the Silver Pigskin Award (San Diego's most prestigious high school football award), Reginald accepted a full ride scholarship to USC. The program was in a bit of disarray after several controversies occurred in the years prior. Reginald was determined to be a part of the change that would bring glory back to SoCal. He played in every game his freshman year, eventually earning the starting running back job in the latter half of the season. He would go on to start every game the rest of his college career. Even as Reginald continued to get better, his team struggled. It wasn't until his senior season that they finally made it to a bowl game. The Trojans took on the Fighting Irish in the Tostitos Fiesta bowl game. Reginald led the team to a comeback victory by scoring on the final play of regulation. This game caught the attention of DSFL scouts who ended up giving him a trial run with the Tijuana Luchadores.

DSFL career

Shrubbery on the Luchadores in s40

Reginald didn't have a lot of opportunities to showcase his skills in his 2055 (S40) trial run with the Luchadores as they were already staffed with some good running backs. He was able to show a glimpse of what he can do during week 13 when he had 2 rushes for 9 yards and a reception for 11 yards. When asked by a reporter what his thoughts are on the upcoming DSFL draft, Reginald responded, "I don't expect to be picked first overall but let me tell you this: I'm excited to show every team who passes me up what they missed. I'm the best. And they about to find out."

Shrubbery on the Grey Ducks in s41

In 2056 (S41), Reginald was drafted by the Minnesota Grey Ducks. He quickly found a role balancing out their passing game with his strong rushing presence. He managed to achieve over 1,000 yards rushing and 10 total touchdowns in his first full season in the DSFL. Reginald's most clutch performance also happened to be his best performance, in week 4 against the Birddogs. He ran for 116 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns and added a receiving touchdown as well. His last touchdown was with only 5 minutes left in the game and put the Grey Ducks up 30-17, essentially putting the game out of reach for Dallas. Minnesota would go on to be tied for the second-best record in the North Division but miss of on the playoffs. Reginald was not considered for any awards or the All-Pro Team. When asked about this, Reginald replied, "They're always underestimating me. That's okay, I'm getting better every day. Can't wait for y'all to see. Just wait."

Season 42 DSFL OPotY

Reginald stayed true to his word and came out hot in the first game of 2057 (S42), rushing for over 100 yards. He and the Grey Ducks would continue to build on this success throughout the season. Reginald's most clutch performance of the season came in a week 11 victory against the Bird Dogs, when he scored the teams only two touchdowns while also rushing for 97 yards. That proved to be the deciding factor in the Ducks' 20-16 win. Reginald's best game was in week 14 in a 31-14 blowout win again the Buccaneers. Even with a meme passing strat, Reginald managed to gain 141 total yards (90 rushing, 51 receiving) and 3 touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 receiving). This was his only 3 touchdown game of his DSFL career. The Ducks would go on to make the playoffs and have a shot at the Ultimini. Although they would not win that game, Reginald put up solid numbers, rushing for over 100 yards in the game. This would be Reginald's last game in Duck blue as he was subsequently called up to the big league. After winning the DSFL Offensive Player of the Year award, Reginald felt that he proved all that he needed to in the minors, telling a reporter, "I've dominated during my time in the DSFL. Now it's time to show what I can do on the big stage."

ISFL Career

OCO drafts Reginald Shrubbery

Leading up to 2058 (S43), Reginald was called up to the ISFL. While his debut season wasn't anything special, he showed flashes of greatness and most definitely contributed to the success of the team. His breakout game was in week 2 against the Silverbacks, when he had 53 yards from scrimmage on 11 touches and a touchdown. While the game did not result in a victory, the coaches realized that they had to try to get Reginald more involved in the game plan. Shrubbery would go on to have his best game in week 15 against the Otters' conference rivals Secondline. In this 42-24 steamroll victory, Reginald had 74 total yards on 9 touches, including two touchdown runs. The Otters would ultimately finish with a 7-9 record and miss the playoffs. While Reginald's rookie stats don't appear all that impressive, he excelled in his role as a formidable backup. When asked about his outlook for the next season, Reginald responded, "I just want to get better. As long as I keep improving, we'll be okay."

And improve, he did. Reginald knew that he wasn't going to put up crazy stats in 2058 (S43), as he was backing up the veteran Leandre Diarra, but he would make the most of the opportunities that he had as he managed to gain over 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the first time in his career. One of his best games came against New Orleans in week 5. Reginald had 12 touches for 89 yards, including a rushing touchdown in an effort that helped the Otters win 31-24. Reginald's most clutch performance occurred in a 31-24 victory against the Sailfish. He had 15 touches for 99 yards, including a 34 yard receiving touchdown late in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. Performances like these led to Reginald being named one of the most clutch runningbacks by the press. When asked about this recognition, Reginald had this to say, "They're starting to notice what I've been doing. It feels good. Ima put the league on notice right now: Ima break out next season. Just you wait. They'll know."

Season 45 ISFL Performance of the Year

The following season started off rough for the Otters, losing the first 4 games. It seemed like neither Reginald or the Otters were going to improve this season. They pulled it together, though, and managed to make a run for the playoffs, only missing it by one game. Reginald's most clutch performance came during week 12 against San Jose. While he put up a decent game, 18 touches for 131 yards and 1 touchdown, Reginald found the clutch on the last play of the game: he had a 47 yard catch and run touchdown on the final play to win the game. Two weeks later, Reginald had his best game of the season. In a 31-0 beat down of the Outlaws, Reginald had 21 rushes for 160 yards, 3 rushing touchdowns and 3 receptions for 94 yards and a receiving touchdown. His 254 scrimmage yards were the 9th most ever in a single game. Reginald's effort this game earned him the ISFL's Performance of the Year award. After the season, a reporter asked him about his outlook for next season. Reginald responded, "We gonna get it."

Season 46 ISFL Offensive Player of the Year

After making several key roster adjustments, the Otters were primed to have a great season. Reginald was ready to lead the way back to the playoffs. He would do whatever is necessary to accomplish the job. Reginald demonstrated this with his most clutch performance in week 11 against the Fire Salamanders. While his yards from scrimmage weren't anything spectacular (97 rushing yards, 25 receiving yards) his 3 rushing touchdowns and two key first downs to ice the game were enough to lead the Otters to a close 35-32 victory. Reginald save his best performance for the final game of the regular season, where he had 110 yards on the ground, 111 yards receiving, and 2 receiving touchdowns, in an effort that led to 34-24 win against the Silverbacks. This made him the 10th player to ever eclipse 100 yards in both rushing and receiving in a single game. While the Otter rolled into the post-season with momentum, they stuttered in their first playoff game. Reginald put forth a valiant effort, gaining 168 scrimmage yards and a touchdown, yet they still came up short. The pain of the playoff loss was eased for Reginald in the offseason, as he received several ISFL honors: ASFC Pro-Bowl member, ISFL All-Pro Second Team, and ISFL Offensive Player of the Year. At the ceremony, Reginald thanks his teammates for their support in his achievements and ended his speech saying, "Don't worry boys, we gonna reload and go all the way next year. You can quote me on that."
