Notre Dame blew out Alabama 49-3 in route to there first National Championship in more than 20 years. Notre Dame would be set to play #1 Georgia (13-0) in a game for the ages. Notre Dame was a 12.5 point underdog going into the game, but Frost stepped up to the challenge. Frost rushed for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns, in a 35-32 win for Notre Dame. Frost declared to the NFL draft after his spectacular season. He went undrafted. Making him the 16th Heisman winner to go undrafted.

Coach Sebastian once said in an interview: "He (Lane Frost) was one of the best players I have ever coached. Too bad he only had one year with us."
