Previously, he was drafted third overall in the 15 by the Norfolk Seawolves whilst the season before Lavelle had spent it on the Kansas City Coyotes as a waiver player, for which he had two appearences in the regular season. Lavelle was born in Yellowknife, Canada on April 13th 2008.
+
Lavelle was born in Yellowknife, Canada on April 13th 2008. Lavelle Jr. would spent most of his childhood living in Yellowknife following his father's retirement from the NSFL and after spending his entire career with the Yellownife Wraiths. The son of NSFL Hall of Famer, Dermot Lavelle, Lavelle Jr. was encouraged to play football from a very young age. Like his father, Lavelle Jr. played a number of sports including soccer, basketball and volleyball alongside american football. Lavelle opted to reject a number of high profile D1 scholarships insisting that they "are interested in me because of my father's legacy and his career, not my potential, grit or hard work that has got me to where I am today". Lavelle decided to enter Aurora College, Yellowknife where he would decline the opportunity to play football at a collegiate level.

Lavelle attended the University of Arizona, where he played for Rich Rodriguez's UAZ football team from 2015–2016.

Lavelle attended Aurora College in Yellowknife. He opted to not play collegiate football, instead choosing to play for the basketball team as a point guard. Lavelle averaged 13.8 points, 9.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Aurora during his single season there (26 games).

Coming out of UAZ in 2016, Lavelle was a projected second-round pick by NFL draft experts and scouts. Many had compared his current ability and ceiling to Miami Dolphins starting cornerback Xavien Howard who would later go on to be drafted 38th overall in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. However just a month prior to to the 2016 NFL Draft, rumors began to circulate about Lavelle's work ethic and commitment to the game. Allegations regarding performance enhancing substances supposedly used during his time on the Wildcats during the 2016 NCAA season were constantly on the lips of the media, these claims were reported from former teammates of Lavelle during his time in Arizona. Three weeks prior to the draft, Lavelle suffered an apparent fractured clavicle injury according to his camp and had to pull out of the 2016 NFL Draft, worth noting is that these claims were never actually confirmed by any medical professional outside of Lavelle's circle.
+
Lavelle declared for the 15 DSFL Draft and was eligible to hit the 14 DSFL waiver wire where he was picked up by the Kansas City Coyotes for their final two games of the season. Following this, Lavelle was selected third overall in the 15 by the Norfolk Seawolves. After little over a season and a bit in the DSFL, Dermot Lavelle Jr. declared for the 16 and following the public release of his draft conditions, found himself drafted fourth overall to the Austin Copperheads.

48 days after the 2016 NFL Draft, the inaugural NSFL Draft was televised and many had speculated about Lavelle's intention to declare. However despite Lavelle's social media campaign praising the NSFL and expressing his willingness to declare for the 1, no formal paperwork was submitted. Lavelle later blamed his agent at the time for the mistake, despite this Lavelle declared for the 2 and entered the league as its first-ever waiver player.

Lavelle competed in all 7 aspects of the NSFL combine and scored very well among a cornerbacks class at the time which included Marc Spector, Tyler Oles, Darnell Turner and Rafael Reyes. Lavelle scored the joint highest among cornerbacks in the Wonderlic with a score of 40, Turner also scored 40. Lavelle was also the strongest cornerback, amassing a total of 20 reps on the bench press while also recording the best 3 cone drill time (6.84) of the entire 2 NSFL Draft class which at the time was the 8th quickest all time.

+
Lavelle Jr. competed in all 7 aspects of the NSFL Scouting Combine which included other notable defensive backs in the class such as Jaylen Storm, Anthony Rowland and Chance Matthews. Lavelle excelled in four of the seven drills, placing top five in the Wonderlic (T-3rd), Vertical jump (4th), Broad jump (4th)

and the 3 cone drill (3rd).

+
2030
+
After being drafted third overall in the 2030 DSFL Draft, Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $4,000,000 with the Norfolk Seawolves. Lavelle has yet to play a single game for the Seawolves.

Prior to the beginning of the season, Head coach Bubba Nuck Sr. named Lavelle as the #2 cornerback for the upcoming season, insisting that he will sit behind and learn from 1 draftee Dirk Cutter. Lavelle starred in all 14 regular season games for the Yellowknife Wraiths and performed well above expectations considering his lack of experience at this level, he finished the season with 57 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumbled recovery, 4 interceptions and 18 pass deflections.
+
Austin Copperheads
+
2031
+
Lavelle was drafted fourth overall by the Austin Copperheads in the 16. Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $1,000,000 which contained an NTC and primary kick and punt returner guarantees. Copperheads GM, Charlie Law did not hesitate in naming Lavelle the teams #1 CB for the future. Lavelle played in all 13 games and by all accounts had a disappointing season amassing just 56 tackles, 1 interception and 8 pass deflections alongside 1 forced fumble. He also had 999 kick return yards from 25 attempts while having returned 15 punts for a total of 65 yards.

Lavelle was named to the 1 in his first ever NSFL season.
+
2032
+
Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $2,000,000 which included an NTC and a KR1/PR1 clause. Lavelle finished the season with an improved 71 tackles, 2 interceptions and 15 pass deflections. Returning the ball he had 39 kick returns resulting in 749 yards, for punts he had 31 for 358 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lavelle was named to the 17 for the first time in his career.

2017
+
2033
After being drafted first overall in the 2017 NSFL Draft, Lavelle signed a 3 year contract worth $14,000,000 with $6,000,000 in the first year of the contract.
+
Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth which included an NTC and a KR1/PR1 clause. Lavelle Jr. saw a decrease in his production in his third season, amassing just 55 tackles, 14 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble with no interceptions. On kick returns, he had a career-high of 1049 yards from 41 attempts, on punt returns just 154 yards on 30 attempts. Lavelle was then named to the 18, the second of his career.

At the beginning of the 2017 season, new Wraiths GM Spike Crown declared openly that Lavelle would be the #1 cornerback going forward, succeeding his past mentor, Dirk Cutter who would now line up in the #2 spot.
+
2034
+
Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $3,000,000 which includes an NTC and a KR1/PR1 clause. Lavelle failed to build off his second pro bowl season heading into the new year and had a down season, only totalling 57 tackles, 13 pass deflections, and just 1 interception. His production on returns also dipped having just 33 kick returns for 826 yards while returning 27 punts for 275 yards and a touchdown. Lavelle however still managed to be named to his third Pro Bowl in his four seasons in the league.

Lavelle finished 2017 with similar performances to his 2016 campaign, 58 tackles, 4 interceptions and 15 pass deflections. Lavelle also had 1 reception for 18 yards.
+
2035
+
Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $4,000,000 which included an NTC and a clause dictating his spot as the team's primary kick and punt returner. While the season started off slow for Lavelle, it wouldn't end up being his best to date. Lavelle finished the season with 52 tackles, 19 pass deflections (T-2nd best in the NSFL) and 3 interceptions while also picking up a forced fumble and a defensive touchdown. Returning the ball, Lavelle finished with 872 kick return yards from 30 attempts alongside 328 punt return yards from 37 attempts. Additionally the Austin Copperheads would go on to become the S20 Ultimus Champions, beating the New Orleans Second Line and the Yellowknife Wraiths en route to raising the Ultimus Trophy. Lavelle would prove to be integral during this run, in the regular season and the playoff games as Austin finished top of the ASFC. Lavelle would be named to his fourth pro bowl in 5 seasons this year.

Lavelle was named to the NSFL 2017 Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season in a row.
+
2036
+
Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $5,000,000 which included a NTC clause and a KR/PR1 guarentee. After recording his best season just a year ago, Lavelle would follow up with the worst single season performance of his young career. Finishing out the season with 51 tackles and just 10 pass deflections, not snagging a single interception in 13 games of regular season play. Returning the ball, Lavelle racked up 926 kick return yards from 36 returns along with 364 punt return yards on 39 attempts. For the second time in his career, Lavelle Jr. failed to make the probowl. Lavelle's inability to perform continued into the playoffs, while getting his hand on 2 pass deflections and 7 tackles, Lavelle could not force a turnover. Sadly for the Copperheads, they would not pass the first round of the playoffs. Falling to the eventual champions, New Orleans Second Line by a deficit of 23-17. Lavelle Jr. would enter the offseason unsure about where or who he would be playing for next season. Rumors circulated throughout the offseason of apparent contact from other NSFL franchises and even the possibility of a switch to the EFL (Elite Football League) was on the table for Lavelle Jr.

2018
+
2037
Lavelle in 2018 had the worst season of his 3 year long career, only amassing 47 tackles, 2 interceptions and 12 pass deflections. Lavelle also made his debut on the special teams side of the ball and had 14 kick returns for 279 yards , 11 punt returns for 508 yards and 1 touchdown.
+
Lavelle would head into the 7th season of his career on the Austin Copperheads roster after re-upping for a 1 year extension with the same clauses. Lavelle entered the new year with renewed optimism, hoping to dust himself down and to get right back to his pro bowl worthy level of play seen previously in his career. Lavelle Jr. opted to sit out all pre-season camps and games in order to rehab an aggravating injury that had affected him all throughout the previous season. The season begun poorly for Lavelle, he would extend his career interception drought to a whopping 26 games (the 2nd most all time, only behind Kacey Dream's 27 game interception drought streak) before finally forcing a turnover in the week 7 decimation of the Sarasota Sailfish, 47-16. Lavelle Jr would continue to build from this game and his confidence visibly grew, before the season was over he managed to snag 2 more interceptions putting his season total statline at 59 tackles, 14 pass deflections and 3 interceptions. On the returning side of the ball Lavelle Jr had 30 kick returns for 758 yards and 28 punt returns for 266 punt return yards. Lavelle Jr. was not the only one to recover from such a slow start to the season, remarkably Austin would begin the season 1-4-1 before winning 7 games in a row to finish 8-4-1 which was good enough for 2nd in the ASFC. Austin would narrowly defeat the New Orleans Second Line 34-27 thanks to a late Ryan Leaf Jr. touchdown to clinch their spot in the ASFC Championship game. They would lose this game 50-38 to the 10 win Orange County Otters. At the end of the season Lavelle Jr would make his fifth probowl in a so far seven season career in the NSFL.

Lavelle was named to his third consecutive pro bowl, continuing his record of being named to a pro bowl in every season he has played in the NSFL.
+
2038
+
Lavelle would re-up for a consecutive 8th season with the Copperheads, a 1 year extension on his previous contract with identical terms.

2019
+
Career DSFL statistics
Lavelle's fourth season saw him bounce back from a disappointing previous year, 62 tackles, 5 interceptions, 20 pass deflections and 2 defensive touchdowns combined with 26 kick returns for 608 yards and 1 touchdown with 39 punt returns for 270 yards proved Lavelle could play on all sides of the ball.

2019 saw Yellowknife and Lavelle win their first ever NSFC title 26-20 over the Philadelphia Liberty.

2024
Lavelle's ninth season in the NSFL would be his best and despite his teams poor regular season record costing them to narrowly miss out on playoffs (7-7 to Colorado Yeti's 8-6), Lavelle's individual performances were exceptional. He racked up 76 tackles, 28 pass deflections and 8 interceptions en route to winning his first ever Defensive Player of the year and Defensive Back of the year Awards. On the special teams side of the ball, Lavelle had 32 kick returns for 921 yards and 1 touchdown while returning a career high 46 punts for 532 yards and 3 touchdowns. ===2025===

Lavelle's tenth season in the league allowed him to build on last years terrific DPOY performances. Unfortunately Yellowknife for the second consecutive season failed to make the playoffs, after falling to a 8-6 record behind the playoff bound 9-5 Colorado Yeti. Lavelle managed 68 tackles, 6 interceptions, 25 pass deflections and 2 defensive touchdowns en route to his second best season of his career. Returning the ball, Lavelle had 38 kick returns for 1145 yards and 2 touchdowns, while returning punts he had 36 attempts for 478 yards and 2 touchdowns. Offensively Lavelle saw limited action, catching just 11 receptions for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Lavelle snagged his tenth consecutive pro bowl nomination in 2025.

2026
Lavelle's eleventh season saw him finish with a career high in tackles (78), 4 interceptions, 26 pass deflectons and 1 defensive touchdown during regular season play. On the special teams side, he racked up a career high 1,312 kick return yards and 1 touchdown from 48 kick returns, with 273 yards from 29 punt returns. This would also be Lavelles final season on the offensive side of the ball where he would catch 11 passes for 303 yards. Yellowknife continued their playoff drought for the third consecutive season, limping to a 4-10 regular season record.

Lavelle was named to his eleventh consecutive pro bowl during the 2026 season.

Lavelle would finish his twelfth NSFL season with a career low 2 interceptions, 18 pass deflections and 68 tackles. On the returning side of the ball he amassed, 734 yards from 37 kick returns and 0 punt returns. Lavelle would also not take a single snap on the offensive side of the ball due to a NSFL rule change that prohibited players from playing on both sides of the ball. Sadly for Yellowknife, they saw their fourth consecutive playoff miss after finishing with a 3-11 record at the bottom of the NSFC.

Lavelle saw his twelfth consecutive pro bowl invitation after the 2027 season.

2028
Lavelle's final season saw a return to form, snagging 3 interceptions alongside 23 pass deflections and 65 tackles. Lavelle returned 46 kicks for 931 yards and did not take any punt returns. Yellowknife made a slight improvement on their previous season, finishing 4-10 but ultimately at the bottom of the NSFC. Lavelle would play his 182nd and final game in the NSFL on the road to the Colorado Yeti, losing 38 -24.

Lavelle's final season ended with a pro bowl selection, making the record 13 straight pro bowl nominations (the most in NSFL history).

Dermot Lavelle, Jr. (born April 13, 2008) is an American football cornerback who plays for the Austin Copperheads of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). Lavelle was drafted fourth overall in the 2031 ISFL Draft (S16) by the Austin Copperheads, where he has remained for all of his career. Previously, he was drafted third overall in the 2030 DSFL Draft (S15) by the Norfolk Seawolves whilst the season before Lavelle had spent it on the Kansas City Coyotes as a waiver player, for which he had two appearences in the regular season. Lavelle is a one time Ultimus champion, five time NSFL pro bowler and the son of NSFL Hall of Famer Dermot Lavelle.

Early years

College career

Lavelle attended Aurora College in Yellowknife. He opted to not play collegiate football, instead choosing to play for the basketball team as a point guard. Lavelle averaged 13.8 points, 9.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Aurora during his single season there (26 games).

Professional career

Lavelle declared for the 2030 (S15) DSFL Draft and was eligible to hit the 2029 (S14) DSFL waiver wire where he was picked up by the Kansas City Coyotes for their final two games of the season. Following this, Lavelle was selected third overall in the 2030 DSFL Draft (S15) by the Norfolk Seawolves. After little over a season and a bit in the DSFL, Dermot Lavelle Jr. declared for the 2031 ISFL Draft (S16) and following the public release of his draft conditions, found himself drafted fourth overall to the Austin Copperheads.

Lavelle Jr. competed in all 7 aspects of the NSFL Scouting Combine which included other notable defensive backs in the class such as Jaylen Storm, Anthony Rowland and Chance Matthews. Lavelle excelled in four of the seven drills, placing top five in the Wonderlic (T-3rd), Vertical jump (4th), Broad jump (4th) and the 3 cone drill (3rd).

Kansas City Coyotes

2029

On June 19th 2029, the Kansas City Coyotes signed Lavelle Jr. to a one-year, $4,000,000 waiver contract which would expire at the end of the 2029 season. He would play in a total of two games for the franchise. Lavelle finished the 2029 season with 10 tackles, 1 interception and 2 pass deflections in his two games with the Kansas City Coyotes.

Norfolk Seawolves

2030

After being drafted third overall in the 2030 DSFL Draft, Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $4,000,000 with the Norfolk Seawolves. Lavelle has yet to play a single game for the Seawolves.

Lavelle was drafted fourth overall by the Austin Copperheads in the 2031 ISFL Draft (S16).

Lavelle was named to the 2032 ISFL Pro Bowl (S17) for the first time in his career.

2033

Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth which included an NTC and a KR1/PR1 clause. Lavelle Jr. saw a decrease in his production in his third season, amassing just 55 tackles, 14 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble with no interceptions. On kick returns, he had a career-high of 1049 yards from 41 attempts, on punt returns just 154 yards on 30 attempts. Lavelle was then named to the 2033 ISFL Pro Bowl (S18), the second of his career.

2034

Lavelle signed a 1-year contract worth $3,000,000 which includes an NTC and a KR1/PR1 clause. Lavelle failed to build off his second pro bowl season heading into the new year and had a down season, only totalling 57 tackles, 13 pass deflections, and just 1 interception. His production on returns also dipped having just 33 kick returns for 826 yards while returning 27 punts for 275 yards and a touchdown. Lavelle however still managed to be named to his third Pro Bowl in his four seasons in the league.

2035

2036

2037

2038

Lavelle would re-up for a consecutive 8th season with the Copperheads, a 1 year extension on his previous contract with identical terms.
