Waylen Greene (born May 4, 2031) is an American football linebacker who is currently entering his eighth season in the ISFL. He played college football for University of Central Florida (UCF) and played for the Dallas BirdDogs in S38 of the DSFL. He was drafted by the Colorado Yeti in S39 of the ISFL.

Early years

Waylen was born in Chicago, IL to Robby Greene and later also adopted by Derek Greene, and attended Taft High School. In addition to football, Waylen also played Basketball and helped the Eagles reach the State Championship in his Sophomore and Junior years where they won both times. Waylen was an All-county player for football in his Junior and Senior years, as well as All-state his Senior year. Waylen graduated as a National Merit Scholar. Waylen was a gifted musical perfomer and played Billy Flynn in Taft's rendition of "Chicago", as well as playing Aaron Samuel in "Mean Girls". As a child, Waylen wanted to be a firefighter, then decided he wanted to play for the Chicago Fire, then wanted to run Fire drills as a teacher, and finally decided to go with football. Waylen won awards for his studies in mathematics with focuses on statistics, and looked forward to researching mathematics in college.

College career

Coming into his freshman year at UCF, Waylen played in 2 games, and in his 3rd game suffered a season-ending injury, leading to his being redshirted. In his Sophomore season, he was able to string together the most pancakes on the team, coming back into a starting role after his 1st game of the season. His junior year he started every game and was able to lead the conference in pancakes while only giving away 1 sack all season. Finally, in his senior season (as a captain), he recorded a school recording breaking number of pancakes, gave up 0 sacks, and was able to secure the Outland Trophy, with UCF's line winning the Joe Moore award. He was able to continue impressing others with his musical chops by partaking in one of UCF's musicals, playing Harold (Hal) Dobbs in "Proof", drawing comparisons to Robin Williams. Waylen has been touted as the best lineman out of UCF since 2025.

Professional career

DSFL

Waylen was drafted #5 overall by the Dallas BirdDogs and immediately switched from OL to DE in order to make the greatest impact he could for the team. He found himself immediately making that impact, tying for 3rd in the DSFL in sacks with 9, tying for 9th with 9 TFLs, and managing to make 29 tackles and forcing 2 fumbles over the course of the season. Due to his strong performance as a rookie in the league, he was able to make 1st Team All Pro on the defensive side, as well as finishing in 3rd place in the voting for Defensive Rookie of the Year. In addition to all of the above, he is being scouted very strongly as a first round pick in the upcoming ISFL draft, where he hopes to be an early to mid first round pick. Waylen is looking forward to remaining a part of the Dallas BirdDogs organization even if he is moved up to play for whatever ISFL team drafts him this year.

ISFL

This was Waylen's first season in the ISFL, being drafted #2 overall by the Colorado Yeti. Going into this draft, he was a defensive end but was moved to the linebacker position and immediately called up upon being drafted. Waylen started off the year strong, leading the league in tackles briefly after week 3, but still finished the season strong as one of the top Rookies in the league, especially impressive considering that some of the other rookies had played an extra year or two in the ISFL. He was a key part of the Colorado Yeti's defensive unit, pulling in key interceptions at times where they were desperately needed to keep the team in the game. The Yeti missed the playoffs this season despite his strong performance, but Waylen still managed to score a defensive touchdown late in the season despite this, leading to the team being excited for his upcoming year.

After nearly leading the team in tackles in his Rookie season (missed the lead by 1 tackle), Waylen was excited to enter year 2 with the Yeti, and despite the fact that the team didn't have the most exciting year, Waylen definitely stepped it up this season. His production went up in terms of tackles (105 rookie year vs 116 sophomore year) and his presence was felt on the field early, even being able to secure a safety on the season. No exciting TDs this season unfortunately, but his combined TFLs and Sacks were 18, and the backfield of opposing teams were left wondering how long they had each play before Greene would break through the line. The Yeti were technically not far from a playoff spot and may have made it in the other conference, so Greene is excited for the possibilities this season holds as he enters the last year of his contract and looks to put on a performance to show he's worth it.

Going into his 4th season in the ISFL, expectations were high for both himself despite the fact that the Yeti were still in the middle of their rebuild, and while some of his stats suffered he still overall had a fantastic contribution on the field/ He was more in coverage this past season, upping his passes defended to 13 on the season even though his TFLs and Sacks suffered. But the impact he had was felt across the league as he was able to secure 1st Team All Pro as an ILB, his first spot on the ALL Pro Team, as well as making the Pro Bowl for S42. Waylen is hitting his prime as we speak and is expected to be one of the top performing LBs this year, coming into his 5th season in the league. He's got a few more seasons before regression begins to hit so this is his chance to make the most of it.

Waylen is now heading into his 7th season in the ISFL, having spent his whole career with the Colorado Yeti but only managing to make the playoffs once in those 6 years prior. However, he has been an integral part of the team during this stretch. He held down the MLB position over the past 2 years and was a key part of the Yeti's playoff run 2 years ago, but now he looks to this year where he knows they can make it again. Last season, he was very close to breaking 100 tackles on the season, and this season he is setting some lofty goals for himself on the field. He is saying he wants to record at least 120 tackles, 10 sacks, and 15 TFLs, along with at least 5 Forced fumbles and 5 fumble recoveries. It's going to take a lot of work this season for him to make these goals, but he's faced bigger challenges and knows he can do this.

Entering his eighth season, Waylen had what is probably the best season statistically of his career, helping lead the Colorado Yeti to the playoffs and their first #1 seed in quite a long time. He had the 8th most tackles in the league at 111, as well as being tied for 15th in the league in sacks. He also posted his 3rd career Safety early in the season, and also posted the 7th most PDs for linebackers in the league, reeling in 1 of them for an INT. He posted 3 Defensive Player of the Games throughout the year and his best game of the season 7 tackles, 2 sacks, and interception, and a safety. In the first game of the season he also posted a stat line of 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. Waylen hopes to compete for Defensive Player of the Year this season and also hopes to be in the conversation for MVP.
