Luigi Numberone (born April 4, 1983) is an American football cornerback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks.He played college football for City College of New York (CCNY) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Much of Luigi's early life is shrouded in mystery, as the Super Mario Brothers have left behind most of their history prior to entering a random warp pipe and ending up in the Mushroom Kingdom. Despite that, some scant details are known: Luigi is the younger of the twins, has sucked up most of the height genes, and was in line to inherit the family plumbing business along with his twin brother. He spent many of his early years learning the tools of the trade from his father, learning how to cook the family's wide range of pasta recipes from his mother, and learning how to parkour with his older brother, Mario. This is when he learned some of his signature techniques, such as the ability to jump many times his own height. This is also when he gained his somewhat iconic and long lasting fear of ghosts, after walking into the wrong theater at a young age and finding a particularly terrifying movie. As he aged even more, he hit a growth spurt around the same time as he graduated high school.

College career

Luigi spent the next 4 years getting a degree as a plumber at the public City College of New York, and learning a trade. This was a particularly difficult time in his life, as for the first time in his life, he had to spend most of his time away from his family. He also was often bullied for his perceived cowardice and scaredy cat nature. Still, he was able to become a very talented plumber and was particularly talented at getting into tight corners and high places, as well as dealing with the common turtle, crab, and sentient iceburg and fireball infestations plaguing New York City's sewer system around this time. One particular job had him and his brother fall into a kelly green pipe large enough for them to travel through, they ended up near perhaps the second most well known castle in the world, and the rest is history.

DSFL career

Luigi's rookie year in the DSFL was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, he oscillated from average performer to stud; after putting up almost no stats in the first quarter of the season, with the one game he put up stats in still being a net negative as he got burned deep repeatedly, for the middle games of the season Luigi caught fire. He put together a multitude of game changing plays, including an onside kick recovery, a double digit number of pass deflections, a large number of great open field tackles with a minimal number of tackles missed, and an interception returned for a touchdown. However, Luigi lost motivation over the final month of the season as no matter what he did, his team remained unable to win. The game he got a pick six in went to overtime, and they ended up losing. The game he recovered an onside kick in functionally ended a couple plays later on an interception. All in all, after 10 games where the Dallas Birddogs had managed to scrounge together one win and one tie, Luigi generally took a backseat in the last month. He still managed to be strong in tackling, and continued to keep himself from being beat deep repeatedly, but could not find his mid season magic anymore. He still has not figured out that you are allowed to touch the ball with your hands at this point in time.

Luigi had a much, much stronger 2nd season in the DSFL than his first season. He didn't have anywhere near the same level of impact plays that he did in his first season, as due to opposing QBs realizing that he was not using his hands, they were more willing to test Luigi Numberone at eye level. This culminated in a 2 INT season without any forced fumbles; seemingly a significant downgrade. Yet, Luigi was much better this season as he avoided giving up as many long passes, managed to average two pass deflections per game and lead the league outright by 2 pass deflections, and in general remained excellent at keeping opponents from getting by him and even improved at lowering the completion percentage of throws in his direction. However, Luigi, much to his dismay and irritation, missed the Pro Bowl entirely due to the aforementioned lack of turnovers. When asked for comment, Luigi gave a mildly disturbing glare towards the Pro Bowl voters, and did not comment on the perceived snub.

Professional career

After his astounding sophomore DSFL season, Luigi was called up to the ISFL by the Baltimore Hawks, the team that had drafted him in the 1st round the year prior. Still developing as a player and still unaware that the use of hands was encouraged and not banned in the sport, Numberone's first season was a bit of a mixed bag; he started out strong with 9 tackles and 3 PDs over the first 3 games of the season, but had a massive dropoff in stats from weeks 5-10; over those 6 games he only had 14 tackles and a single PD. However, he finally had a breakout game in Week 11: 4 tackles was one off his best up until that point, and he had 3 PDs and his lone INT on the season. The final 5 games of the season included only one where he did not make an impact play and Luigi put together another 3 PD game in his Week 14 matchup vs the Yeti, along with a Sack. That being said, as a rookie slot cornerback, the amount of opportunities Luigi got to be on the field was somewhat limited, leading to a raw stat total worse than either of his DSFL seasons. However, the Hawks were excellent enough to make the playoffs as the 1st seed in their conference, leading to more opportunities for Luigi to make an impact.

During the Hawks' 2 playoff games, Luigi amassed 7 tackles and 3 PDs as part of a defensive unit that was basically the entire reason Baltimore won the Ultimus. This included a clutch 3rd down tackle to prevent the Silverbacks from getting a fresh set of downs and forced them to try a 57 yard field goal to tie; them missing the field goal practically sealed the game for the Hawks.

Luigi's second season in the ISFL was extremely turbulent; through the first half of the season, the CB was stuck at Nickel and thus didn't have the stats or influence on the game that he wanted. When he learned that a new CB was coming that would push him farther down the depth chart, Luigi first told his team that he was going to leave in Free Agency, then was convinced to be put on the trade block. He almost immediately got picked up by the Crash, and slotted in as their new CB2. However, his impact on the field was not all that great; he had back to back games with 3 PDs, one of which came with an interception, but his other 5 games on the Crash only included a sack, a forced fumble, and a handful of tackles. His performance in the playoffs was a bit better, with 2 PBUs in the conference championship and another PBU in the Ultimus, but he was also responsible, at least partly, for at least one massive defensive lapse that allowed for the Hahalua's opening touchdown in a game the Crash lost by 7.

Luigi's first full season as a starting CB was full of personal accomplishments with a corresponding lack of team success. He reached top 15 in pass deflections, picked off 3 balls and took 2 of them back for pick sixes, and got 89 tackles. With the exception of sacks and forced fumbles, Luigi set new career highs in every single stat. However, this also coincided with the least successful ISFL season of his career thus far. Far from reaching the Ultimus, the Crash ended up 5th in the conference with a losing record, in large part due to the defense. The worst defense in points against and the 3rd worst in passing yards allowed per game, the season really could not be called great on Luigi's part despite the jump in stats. This culminated in the worst defensive performance of the season, a 69-14 loss in Week 16 against the Yeti that opened with one of Numberone's pick sixes, and then had the Yeti score nearly 70 unanswered. After the game Luigi could say nothing but "I'm-a tired."

Numberone had a very poor personal season in the ISFL, which paradoxically came coupled with an astounding amount of team defensive success. The Crash had the 3rd best defense in the league, only 16 points behind the leaders, and ended up with the 2nd best point differential in the NSFC and the 5th best overall despite an average offense. This was mostly due to a DPOY level campaign from Numberone's fellow CB, however. Luigi was one of only 3 CBs to give up a greater than 70% catch rate, had only 7 PDs through his first 13 games and even with a stronger end to the season was not able to amass even 1 PD per game, and gave up numerous important touchdowns. This included the final play on Defense for the Crash that season, a 25 yard touchdown pass to Rocky Moreaux that Luigi was responsible for covering and was unable to keep in front of him. This ended up knocking the Crash out of the playoffs. Despite the large amount of success around Luigi, this was the worst season of his career and a season in which Luigi was arguably the single worst CB in the entire league.
