Hercules 'Herc' Kirkby (born May 19, 2024) is an American football tight end for the Tijuana Luchadores of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Hercules Kirkby is the nephew of SHL hall of famer Rex Kirkby and cousin to retired ISFL saftey Thor Kirkby. He was born in New Zealand before relocating with his parents in Philadelphia. Growing up a keen fan of the Forge he nevertheless followed in his cousins rather than uncles footsteps and ended up as a pro footballer. As he progressed through the age groups he initally started off as a defensive lineman before a youth coach recognised his aerial ability and elite hand eye coordination and he was switch to Tight End. This proved to be a match made in heaven as Kirkby excelled in this position and went on to dominate smaller defensive backs using his height and size to his advantage. This caught the eye of many college scouts but inevitably Herc only wanted to play for his home town team and signed an offer from Penn State. His brother Tawera Kirkby plays in the WSBL and his nephew Redford is making his way up the junior hockey ranks.

College career

Kirkby went on to play four seasons with the Nittany Lions starting in every game. He was nominated twice for the John Mackay award but failed to win it either time. As well as this he was three times named in the all big ten teams, twice for the first team and once for the third team. In fifty six games he made 212 receptions for 2387 yards and 27 touch downs. His third season was the high point of his college career notching highs in yards, touchdowns and receptions. Even though he played all the games in his final season he struggled with niggling injuries that somewhat curtailed his progression and as a result he ended up missing out on the DSFL draft completely and was subsequently picked up off of waivers by the Tijuana Luchadores. His former coach described him as a premier aerial threat who has the size and speed to cause real trouble for smaller defensive backs.
