Emerson Bigguns (born February 29, 2036) is an American football Defensive Tackle for the Yellowknife Wraiths of the International Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early Years

Born in Orlando, Florida, Emerson Bigguns has been simply dominant from the moment he touched a football. At the age of 6-years-old he was already a force to be reckoned with even when he was put alongside older kids in the Youth Football League to make it "fair" because he made it a habit of showing up on TikTok or X (formerly known as Twitter) sacking the quarterback or blowing up plays from anywhere along the defensive line. Wide-9, 3-Tech, Nose; no matter where he lined up and no matter how many people tried to stop him, Emerson was absolutely unblockable. His coaches usually sat him out after halftime when the games were already out of reach just to give opponents a “chance” and to give other players on the team some playing time. Even with this limited playing time though, Emerson’s dominance caught the attention of the athletic director from IMG Academy located just about two hours south of Orlando.

His parents knew that this was a great opportunity to see how Emerson stacked up against better competition. However, even in his first year at IMG as a sixth grader, it was more of the same; complete dominance over players older than him. Emerson was already a beast, but the coaching staff helped mold him into a more transcendent player. He learned how to play with leverage and great hand technique. He became addicted to the weight room and took it as a personal challenge when someone thought that they could bench or squat more than him. During his time at IMG Academy, Emerson was a three-time team captain, two-time national champion, and earned the nation’s best player of the year award as a Senior when he was averaging 2.25 sacks and 5 TFLs per game from the defensive tackle position. Although his play garnered most of the publicity, Emerson still prided himself on his intellect. As such, he worked diligently to maintain a 4.0 GPA with aspirations of doing something more with his life after his playing career was done. In fact, that was the biggest factor in determining where he when to college. At the end of his tenure at IMG, it was no surprise that Emerson was the #1 player in the country and on the ESPN 300, so it was not a shock when he was being recruited by all of the major colleges in the AP Top 25. What *did* take everyone by surprise was the announcement that he would play football at Harvard with the goal to pursue a double major in finance and quantitative economics.

College Career

Before he stepped foot on campus or even laced up his cleats on the field, Emerson was a sought-after commodity. Companies wanted to capitalize on the buzz of the #1 player choosing to go Ivy League versus any of the blue blood teams in the Power Five conferences. His first N.I.L. deal came from Apple, wanting him for their “Genius Bar” campaign; it was to draw the sports world further into the land of technology. Of course, the sports world would see him in other commercials and advertisements too thanks to a Michael Jordan-esque lifetime deal with Nike. The “Bigguns” line at Nike would skyrocket after Emerson delivered on the hype in his first year with 14 sacks, 30 TFLs, 5FFs, 2FRs, 2Ints, and a TD enroute to being selected to the All-American freshmen team. The “Bigguns” motto of “Be Different” inspired other players to reconsider where they were going to play in college in order to trailblaze their own path much like Emerson did by going to Harvard.

How do you follow up one of the best freshman years of all-time? Well, Gatorade did not want to wait until after the season to sign Emerson because they too knew great things were to come… and it did. His sophomore season of 19 sacks along with a slew of other mind-staggering statistics earned him unanimous first-team All-American honors as well as the Chuck Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player of the Year), the Bronco Nagurski Award (Best Defensive Player of the Year), the Lombardi Award (Best Lineman), and the Outland Trophy (Best Interior Lineman).

His junior year in college would be the most prolific in the eventual collegiate legacy of Emerson Bigguns. Determined to finish his degree before he declared for the NFL, he became a man on a mission. His academic goals coincided with him landing an N.I.L. deal with Hooters that allowed him to use his soon-to-be finance degree to creatively launch an educational program called “Bigguns Buddies” wherein athletes who maintained a 3.8 GPA or higher could bring their report card in once a semester for a free basket of wings and fries. Nonetheless, his on-field play would be what he was most remembered for. Emerson broke the single-season sack record with 22 (which shattered the career all-time record with a total of 55) on top of delivering Harvard its first National Championship since 1919. Moreover, it was a clean sweep for all the awards and trophies again for a defensive player, but it all culminated in the end when he became the first defensive player since Charles Woodson to win the Heisman Trophy.

DSFL Career

Needless to say, Emerson was regarded as a “can’t miss” prospect by scouts. His relentless motor, instinctive play, and violent moves made him a generational talent. During the combine his tape and measurables were unquestionably elite but what intrigued teams the most was in his interviews. Emerson was asked about his extracurricular hobbies of chess and being a FIDE Master with an Elo rating of 2320. His response was, “Chess is no different than being in the trenches. You need to setup moves and countermoves and adapt to what your opponent is doing but eventually if you master your techniques, it always ends in checkmate for my opponent.” Other teams were interested in who he models his game after. Emerson said that wanted to break Hall of Famer Dan Miller’s (Sabercats/Yeti) all-time sack record of 132, but that he is most like other Hall of Famer Chuck Roth (Pythons/Outlaws) in that he will always be around the ball and finish the play. When the combine came to a close Emerson thought it was best to wait a while to consider his future, but in Week 6 of Season 44 he was claimed off waivers by the Tijuana Luchadores and the rest is in the annals below.

Season 44

Season 44 saw the arrival of Emerson Bigguns into the ISFL. However, he would not make his debut in the DSFL until Week 6 when he was picked up off of waivers by the Tijuana Luchadores. Yet, it certainly was a match made in heaven as the Luchadores were in the market for another big body to anchor the defensive line. Emerson lined up at nose tackle to begin his career, but his speed and athleticism moved him down the line to left defensive end after a few games. His presence would be felt by his opponents as he would find himself in the backfield on almost every play, causing chaos, wreaking havoc, and eating up blockers allowing his teammates to feast. His stats for a truncated nine game season were modest as he went on to record 28 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 fumble recoveries, and 3 sacks. Except, the most important stat line of Emerson’s first season in the ISFL was a “W”. Emerson helped his team win a record-extending 11th DSFL Ultimini Championship against the Portland Pythons to cap off an amazing season!

ISFL Career

Drafted in the 1st round with the 6th pick of the 2060 ISFL draft by the Yellowknife Wraiths, Emerson Bigguns was on his way to the big leagues. Season 45 of the ISFL would be a memorable one for Emerson as he would go on to contribute...
