Dunkler Sowerwine (born August 1, 2038) is an American football defensive end for the Minnesota Grey Ducks of the DSFL. He played college football for Michigan State University before being drafted 3rd overall by the Minnesota Grey Ducks in the Season 46 DSFL Draft.

Early years

Dunkler was born to Jeorg and Jannika Sowerwine, who were members of a commune in rural Minnesota. Dunkler has no idea how many of his "brothers" and "sisters" he is actually related to, as the commune was pretty loose with family ties. His strange and atypical upbringing included copius amounts of manual labor, and sparse opportunities for book learnin. It wasn't until Dunkler's teenage years that he had even heard of football, when a local coach for the highschool football team spied him picking up supplies from a local hardware store. Dunkler's frame and condition made him a prime jewel for any football team. The coach worked out a deal with the commune elders where Dunkler would be "loaned" to the school for football in exchange for the coach's firstborn's "soul". The coach actually did not really read what he was signing, and probably regretted that in the end. Dunkler played both sides of the ball in high school, but appreciated the simplicity of defense. Merely defeat the foe, I mean blocker before you and kill, I mean tackle the ball carrier.

College career

The connection between rural Minnesota and Michigan State is pretty much non-existant. The one thing that did draw Dunkler to East Lansing however, was the legends of an "All Galaxy" defense from the Spartans past. Dunkler leaned on his occult, I mean commune upbringing to draw power from the volume and intensity of disrespect the Spartan team would receive through the media and opposing fans. He helped teach the other defenders how to turn the public's disdain into GAINS in the weight room. Soon, the entire D-line had adopted a menacing persona that went a little beyond the typical D-1 football players. They began experimenting with more and more unique facemasks, trying to intimidate opposing linemen and skill players alike. Dunkler enjoyed the college life so much, he stayed the full 4 years and did not enter the DSFL draft early (Although pundits claimed he could have left after 2 years).

S45

Dunkler finished his college career just in time to be signed to a post trade deadline deal with the Minnesota Grey Ducks. With it being so late in the season, Dunkler was only able to suit up for a single game for the Ducks. The Week 14 showdown with the Bondi Beach Buccaneers was a “win and in” playoffs scenario. Earlier that day, the Portland Pythons won their Week 14 matchup against the lowly Norfolk Seawolves. This turned the Buccs game into an elimination game for the Ducks. Sadly the Ducks could not pull out the win, losing 14-19 at home to Bondi Beach. The Grey Ducks held a 14-10 lead at the end of the third quarter, however the Buccaneers hit a 52 yard field goal and added a touchdown (failed 2 point conversion) in the 4th quarter. Minnesota had a desperate last chance to win the game, driving all the way down to the Bondi beach 3 yard line with only 0:08 left on the clock and no time outs! Sadly, some poor clock management prevented the Ducks from running one more play with a shot at the winning touchdown. Minnesota and Dunkler’s season ended in defeat.

S46

Released from his post trade deadline contract with the Grey Ducks, Dunkler formally entered the S46 DSFL draft. He was unsure where he would wind up, as all 8 teams had reached out to the prospect. He didn’t have to wait long however, as Minnesota would bring Sowerwine back with the 3rd overall pick of the draft! Dunkler joined other defensive rookies Tony Scaletta (LB), Bean Beanman Iii (LB), Dason Dehorn (CB), and Dennis Li (LB) in the S46 draft class. Dunkler and 2nd round Ducks selection Dominic Reynolds (OL) would both be nominated as Captains for their units for the season.

The Grey Ducks emerged as favorites to win the Ultimini in S46, but faced stiff competition both in their division and from the Tijuana Luchadores, who were the reigning champions. Dunkler had a great rookie season, getting to opposing quarterbacks 7 times. However, the Ducks defensive unit as a whole outshined any individual effort on the team. They finished with the best Points Allowed in the league at 273. They were the only team to keep opponents under 300 points scored. Sadly the Ducks would fall in the first round of the DSFL playoffs to the London Royals. The Dallas Birddogs would go on to take home the S46 Ultimini trophy from Cracow, Poland.
