Remon Kurisuto (レモン クリスト, born April 20, 1997) is an American football wide receiver for the Orange County Otters of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for Yale University, before spending a season in the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL) with the Norfolk Seawolves, and has not yet started play in the NSFL.

Early years

Kurisuto was born in Nakagawa, Hokkaido, Japan to immigrant parents Julio Cristo and Amelia Cristo. During their immigration to Japan, the family opted to change their last name from Cristo to Kurisuto in order to fit the native pronunciation. Julio frequently watched reruns of American football games with his father and organized local games with his friends. As part of a small population in Japan interested in American Football, it was difficult to frequently find games to participate in. Instead, Kurisuto participated in many baseball leagues to satisfy his athletic itch. In order to stay motivated, Kurisuto was known to stay up late watching American television broadcasts of live games as he grew older. Julio and Amelia identified his interest in football, and encouraged him to work towards attending school in the United States in order to pursue this interest. Kurisuto eventually leveraged his high marks in school to attend Yale University for accounting, where he began training to ultimately join the varsity team there.

College career

During Kurisuto's freshman year at Yale, he did not make the cut for any varsity football teams, but did make the baseball team. He spent his time during this year adjusting to American lifestyle, and benefitting from increased proximity to the football players. Kurisuto frequently socialized with the football players more than the baseball players, despite an obvious language barrier. He credits much of his success to the mentorship of these older football players as mentors towards his training, and eventual time on the team. Kurisuto joined the football team during his sophomore year at Yale, and was placed in a Wide Receiver role, where he could use his small frame and high agility to make extensive catches. Throughout his three years on the team, Kurisuto was a starting Wide Receiver for his junior and senior years, and held passing yard totals within the top 10 of the varsity circuit for both years.
