He played college football for Boston College before being drafted by the Orange County Otters with the 48th overall pick in the 2016 ISFL Draft (S1). Boss is the most decorated Otter of all time, leading the franchise to its first Ultimus Bowl victories and a historic threepeat. He has been voted League MVP on four different occasions and is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks – if not the best – in league history.

Orange County Otters

With teams focusing on defensive and offensive skill position players and a strong but even group of quarterbacks available, Boss was not at the top of team draft boards. In the end, he was taken as the second quarterback in the inaugural draft with the 48th overall pick. The Otters would finish with a 9-5 record and lose in the ASFC Championship game to the Arizona Outlaws while Boss would throw for 2,334 yards and an 11-19 TD-INT ratio.

2017 saw the Otters finish with a similar 8-6 record and again lose in the ASFC Championship Game to the Arizona Outlaws. In contrast, Boss improved his play considerably and making the 2017 ISFL Pro Bowl (S2). The 2018 season followed in a similar fashion to previous ones, as the Otters finished with an 8-6 record and yet again tasted defeat against their rivals, the Outlaws in the ASFC Championship Game. There were clear improvements in Boss's play as he would make new personal records and lead the league in almost all relevant categories, and that would help him take home the Offensive MVP and make the 2018 ISFL Pro Bowl (S3).

With the introduction of robots to play along the offensive line in 2019 and free agency heating up, the Otters tied up Boss to a 3 year, $22 million extension. In a season that seemed destined to a similar fate after a 9-5 regular season, Boss helped the Otters take revenge by defeating the Outlaws in the ASFC Championship Game, 27-9. The league-best passing offense would not be stopped as League MVP racked up 439 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 30-23 win over the Yellowknife Wraiths in Ultimus Bowl IV.

The Otters - and Boss - continued their high-level play in 2020, finishing 11-3 in the regular season and destroyed the Outlaws in the ASFC Championship Game where Boss threw for 366 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. Ultimus Bowl V was an ugly, defensive battle but eventually, the Otters came out on top and Boss retained his League MVP and Quarterback of the year awards.

Boss would continue his and the Otters' dominance in 2021, passing for 5,516 yards and 42 touchdowns and marching to an 11-3 regular-season record while winning his third straight League MVP and Quarterback of the Year award. The Otters would face a new opponent in the ASFC Championship Game in the San Jose Sabercats and escape with a narrow 32-29 victory. They would then defeat the Philadelphia Liberty in Ultimus Bowl VI with Boss throwing for 460 yards and 2 touchdowns and complete their first threepeat by winning three consecutive championships in the NSFL. Boss would later and on numerous occasions say that the threepeat and especially the final ASFC Championship Games were the greatest moments of his career.

With the Otters going through significant player turnover in 2022, Boss didn't let that affect his play as he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns with 5,077 yards and 40 touchdowns. With those stats, he led the Otters to a 13-1 record in the regular season and an overwhelming 48-24 victory over the Outlaws in the ASFC Championship Game. Looking for his and the Otters' record fourth championship in a row, to fully cement their dynasty, they were stunned after the Philadelphia Liberty returned the opening kick-off 103 yards for a touchdown. They would never come back from this and end up losing 28-19 in Ultimus Bowl VII.

The 2023 season involved changes in the front office along with a blockbuster trade for safety Jaylon Broxton, but Boss continued his high level of play by throwing for 5,043 yards and 36 touchdowns on the season while winning his fifth straight Quarterback of the Year award and his fourth League MVP. He would lead the Otters to a 10-4 record in the regular season but would lose to the New Orleans Second Line in the ASFC Championship Game. The 2024 season would end up being Boss' last season although you wouldn't know that looking at his stats as he would again throw for over 5,000 yards and record 36 touchdowns. The Otters would secure a 9-5 regular-season record but would again lose to the eventual Ultimus Bowl champions, the New Orleans Second Line in the ASFC Championship Game. With his stats, consistency and leading the Otters to a threepeat, Boss was inducted into the NSFL Hall of Fame in 2027.
