Professional career

2058

Trent Thigpen was drafted in the first round of the S43 DSFL draft with the 6th overall pick by the Tijuana Luchadores. As a rookie, Thigpen was elected as a team captain and made an immediate impact on and off the field. Thigpen had a strong rookie season in Tijuana as a DT playing from the starting RE position for most snaps and ending the year with 34 tackles and 5 sacks. The strong Tijuana defense complemented one of the most dynamic offenses in the DSFL, and Thigpen’s team had a strong year on their way to an 18th franchise Ultimini appearance. While it ended in a disappointing loss, Thigpen looks forward to returning to Tijuana in season 44 for another run at the Ultimini. After that, his future lies in Austin with the Copperheads. As Thigpen’s impressive rookie year caught the attention of many ISFL teams, Austin went ahead and traded a third round pick along with their 6th overall pick in the first round to jump the Orange County Otters and take Thigpen with the fourth overall pick. Certainly an exciting start to a young career.
