Early years
When Toller was old enough to begin working, he went to a high school for a couple days to try and train as a service dog, but failed horribly as he was too excitable and couldn't sit still. When looking for other careers as a dog, he sat outside and watched some of the kids from school throw a ball around. It looked like fun and he ran over to join. The ball was a little too big and weirdly shaped to fit in his mouth like the tennis balls he LOVED, but he could catch it with his paws and lay on the ground. He could also jump on the kids when they were trying to catch the ball and stop them. Toller finished that day panting happily, with a new career goal for himself. Unlike his littermates who were companions and helpers, he would prance his own path. He would be a football player.
College career
Applications are hard to write with paws, so Toller traveled to the Universities in the area to bark his case. He loves to run, so getting around wasn't an issue. It also helps that he's cute, so people would stop and let him ride in their cars. He'd put his head out the window and dream about fields with numbers he couldn't read. The first few colleges and univerisities listened politely and gave him nice pats, but said they didn't have room on their roster for him. Undeterred, he headed to St. Francis Xavier University. The coaches were skeptical at first, but allowed him to come to tryouts and he wowed them with his speed and ability - he'd practiced catching the ball with his paws and could reliably receive. They asked him what he'd like to play and he said ANYTHING. He played a number of positions and had a very successful career with StFX.
