Maui Waialiki (born February 2, 1999) is an American football offensive lineman who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Maui Waialiki grew up in a secluded island somewhere in Hawaii. All he knew in his early days were the sun, the beach and the waves. He was a strong boy, strongest of them all, everyone could see that. The village he grew up in always regarded him as the heir to the chief. That all changed Maui's family had to move due to the island them living on getting bought out. A resort was going to be built on it. Maui's family had to move to an Urban city and from there, he found his passion of playing ball. He was a very big kid, so he was never a skill position. Everyone always put him at a defensive rusher or linebacker when they played. Maui still loved the game and decided to try out for his high school team. The scouting coach decided that Maui's talents would be best utilized at offensive line. Maui had never played there, but he was pretty darn good at it. He played so well throughout high school that his team actually led their conference in rushing yards and let up the least sacks. Maui got an offer from a lot of universities, but decided to keep it local so he could be close to his family. Going out of the state would require a flight, and it's not like a mainland state where you can just drive back. Maui settled with the University of Hawaii at Manoa on signing day.

College career

Maui was a day 1 starter due to his size. He was huge coming out of high school, at 6' 7" and 320 pounds. He was still a little bit skinny, so he actually ended putting on a little bit more weight throughout his freshman season. UHM was not a very good football team. They did not perform well before Maui got there, and they didn't perform that great after he go tthere. But there was a slight improvement. Maui's freshman season could certainly be characterized by raw. He had a lot of potentil, but his technique was raw, his movements slow, and he just had a very unpolsihed look to him. The one thing Maui did know, was work ethic. He worked hard, and he came to practice everyday ready for a fight. He was always looking to improve on the field, and that work ethic got him noticed by scouts. His freshman season was a chance for him to make mistakes and improve on it, because when he got to sophomore season, he showed much improvement. He was being labeled as one of the top lineman in his class. He had a good season, and so did his team, but they still had a losing record. For the first time in a while, UHM finally managed to get a winning record and get invited to a bowl game which they subsequently lost. Maui looked amazing though, and was getting a bunch of attention from scouts. He decided to declare for the DSFL draft a bit late, but many still view him as the top OL in the class.
