Early years
"Mac Mannheim was born in Manchester, England to parents Jeffrey and Lisa Mannheim. He is of Swiss, English and American heritage.
Mac started playing sports early, encouraged and supported by his father who had been a collegiate standout at QB slated for the ISFL before a car crash left him in a wheelchair due to life-changing injuries. Mac used the opportunity that was taken away from his father as fuel, and became determined to do whatever he could to ensure that he could fulfill his father's dream of playing QB at the highest level.
Mannheim's family relocated to America when he was 7, and he attended Lee's Summit High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He began playing football for Lee's Summit High School in 2011, serving as the starting quarterback for the all-freshman team until varsity quarterback Carson Hunt broke his arm partway through the season. The next year, Mannheim helped take the Tigers to the Missouri High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 6A championship game, where they won 31–23. Mannheim got injured in the run to the championship and his backup, Alejandro Tedesco had 323 passing yards and two touchdowns in the title game.
As a senior in 2013, Mannheim made the transition to safety having lost the starting QB job to Tedesco. He recorded 75 tackles, including 9 tackles-for-loss, to go with two sacks and a three interceptions as a safety. He played a mixture of safety, linebacker and slot corner in his senior year and recorded 125 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss, to go with four sacks, a further two interceptions and 6 pass breakups.
Mannheim was a three-star recruit coming out of high school."
College career
"After initially commiting to Stanford, Mannheim decommited when he received an offer from University of Washington.
As a true freshman, Mannheim saw playing time in the Huskies' 3 safety packages, often use to cover tightends and receiving backs or on safety blitzes, and on special teams. Mannheim featured in 9 games for the Huskies, starting 2, and ended the season with 33 tackles, a tackle for loss, 2 interceptions and a blocked punt.
While not naturally athletic, Mannheim spent much of his freshman year in the weight room, and learnt as much as he could about exercise physiology and nutrition to further his progression in this. With this added size and athleticisim, Mannheim began to get practice reps with the linebackers, while he cintinued to practice with the defensive backs primarily. As a sophomore, Mannheim started all 12 games for the Huskies, tallying 74 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 2 interceptions.
Moving into his junior year, Mannheim made the full time transition to linebacker, featuring initially as an outside linebacker before taking the starting middle linebacker role halfway through the season. He finished the year with 85 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defended, 3 interceptions and a forced fumble while starting all 13 games. During Mannheim's senior year he started all 13 games for the Huskies, and while the starting middle linebacker of the team, saw snaps at outside linebacker, safety and even in the slot at times. During his final year at college he recorded 96 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 4 passes defended, 4 interceptions and a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery."
