College career

Following several interviews with scouts, Knight decided to accept an invitation from Texas A&M University to play as a wide receiver. In his freshman year, Knight struggled to adapt to his role and only play as a backup for 3 out of 13 games where he had a much significant contribution as kick/punt returner.

Before the start of his sophomore year, the defensive coach suggested Knight to switch into a defensive back where he could take advantage of his vision and ball skills. For the season, Knight earned the starting role as an outside corner and 19 tackles, 5 passes defended and 1 interception in 6 games.

During his junior and senior years, Knight became a starter for 26 out of 28 games played. He spent most of the time as an outside corner but filled in as a free safety and in the slot when needed. The team went into the bowl game two consecutive seasons but lost both times. His senior year, Knight posted a season with 64 tackles, 8 for loss, 6 interceptions and 17 pass breakups in which he was selected first-team All-SEC and was a finalist for the Thorpe Award.
