Gary Goodman (born May 5, 2018) is an American football linebacker who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Wisconsin (UW) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Gary Goodman was born to Larry and Mary Goodman in Poplar, WI. His father Larry played college football at UW - Whitewater and coaches Pony League football in the Poplar area. Gary has quoted his father as being a tough love kind of coach. Goodman was quick to grow and his size and natural speed made him a force to be reckoned with when learning the game.

Gary was a standout linebacker in high school, leading his team in tackles each season. The team was able to make the state playoffs in his Junior and Senior year but failed to capture a state title. Gary has 3 older brothers, his oldest brother Larry Jr. was a walk on at Wisconsin and started at LB his Junior and Senior year. Goodman was ranked as a 3 Star LB Recruit coming out of high school. Gary had numerous scholarship offers but ultimately decided to follow in his brothers footsteps and declared for Wisconsin's 2036 class. "

College career

2036 Season:

During his Freshman year Goodman was mainly a backup for the majority of the season. He was able to start 2 games at the end of the season due to an injury to Senior LB Percy Gregory. Goodman finished the season with 2 sacks.

2037 Season:

Goodman was deemed the starting linebacker entering his Sophomore year. He quickly became a leader on the field. He played the entire season where the Badgers finished with an 8-5 record and defeated the Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. Goodman recorded 4 sacks and 2 interceptions during the campaign.

2038 Season:

This was Goodman's breakout year. The Wisconsin defense was ranked of the best in the country not allowing any points in 4 games on their way to a 10-4 record with a Rose Bowl loss. Goodman finished the season with 7 sacks and 3 interceptions and was a finalist for the Butkus Award but finished second in the voting. Goodman declared for the DSFL draft at the end of his Junior Season. "

Goodman was assigned to the Amarillo Tumbleweeds during the S24 Prospect Bowl. Goodman broke out early in his first two games of the season where he recorded 16 tackles, 2 sacks and an interception, as the Tumbleweeds started off the season 2-0. He was inexplicably absent from the field during Amarillo's final 3 games where the team lost all 3 games to finish the season 2-3 and eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Goodman was rated as one of the top Linebacking prospects in the S24 DSFL Draft. He was the 5th LB taken at 31st overall by the Kansas City Coyotes.

Professional career statistics

2039 Season:

Kansas City was coming off a Season 23 Ultimini appearance and looked to continue their success headed into Season 24. The team invested heavily on the defensive side of the ball in the S24 Draft. Unfortunately, the Coyotes could not reach the postseason just missing the playoffs with a 6-8 record after losing their final 3 games of the season.

Even though Goodman had some buzz heading into the season after a decent Prospect Bowl and was considered a steal in the Season 24 DSFL Draft no one could have predicted how much Goodman would break out in his rookie season in the DSFL. Goodman was a force in the front seven for Kansas City, leading the team in tackles (99) and sharing the lead for interceptions (3). He was also a factor on Special Teams blocking a punt and consistently holding returners to low yardage returns.

Goodman did not receive any votes for awards season but was an honorable mention in multiple media posts. He received Defensive Player of the Year from the Kansas City Coyotes organization. Goodman was also selected as starting LB for the NFC in the S24 DSFL Pro Bowl with 5 out of 11 votes, a rare honor for a rookie Linebacker.

Goodman's prospect rating was high heading into the ISFL S25 Draft in what many considered one of the most talented drafts the league had ever seen.
