Texas A&M were the first team to offer him a scholarship but Hernandez turned it down. Other Texas football institutions tried their hand at recruiting the linebacker including the TCU Horned Frogs as well as the Baylor Bears but it was clear that DeShaun had his set on one school and one school only The University Of Texas. That's why it came as little surprise when Hernandez put on a longhorn cap on signing day. What was amazing and a big surprise was just how good Hernandez was as a freshman. In first season as a longhorn , Campbell put up one hundred and sixty four tackles putting him fourth all time for tackles in a single season.
