WorseThan Blaze (born May 11, 2038) is an American football runningback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Wisconsin (WIS) before being drafted by the Honolulu Hahalua in the 2060 ISFL Draft (S45). Prior to this, he had been drafted by the Norfolk Seawolves in the 2059 DSFL Draft (S44).

Early years

WorseThan Blaze was born in Kenosha, WI the son of a university professor mother and athletic agent father. He was named in reference to ISFL star wide receiver Johnny Blaze Jr., a player whose prowess his parents knew immediately he would never live up to. While some parents name their children with bright futures in mind, WorseThan's parents were realists who wanted to give him a chip on his shoulder from a young age. Whatever they did, it worked. Young Blaze immediately took to football, eager to prove himself to his parents, his schoolmates, and the world. In high school, the bruising fullback set a Wisconsin state record for pancakes in a season with 300. His intense and relentless style of play reminded others of NFL greats William Henderson and Mike Alstott, and he received an offer to play for in-state power University of Wisconsin on a full scholarship, an offer he graciously accepted.

College career

WorseThan immediately proved himself as a hard worker and selfless team player. Despite being limited to special teams duties as a freshman, Blaze was frequently mentioned by high profile teammates and coaches as a player to watch for the future, and he won the players vote for Freshman of the Year for the team. His sophomore season was a breakout one for Blaze, as he began seeing routine snaps at both fullback and tight end, along with keeping his special teams duties. Wisconsin is known to churn out tremendous running backs, and nobody appreciated Blaze more than the halfbacks who he blocked for. During his junior year, Blaze laid a huge block on an Ohio State linebacker to spring the team's halfback free for the game-winning 25 yard touchdown run. During his senior year, Blaze started to get some goalline carries in addition to his typical work as a blocker. He was also given the captain armband, an honor rarely bestowed upon a fullback. He scored 3 touchdowns in a 59-10 victory over Purdue, and was instrumental in helping the team pick up first downs in short-yardage situations. Wisconsin won the national championship with a 49-39 win over Florida State.

DSFL career

Blaze's rookie DSFL season was an interesting one, as he was forced into a role as Norfolk's primary rushing back. Worsethan did a great job of settling in as the season went on, and although his skillset was moreso one of blocking, he worked to improve his vision, speed, and general ability with the ball in his hands. Blaze finished 4th in the league in rushing yards with 951, recording 7 touchdowns and averaging a decent 3.8 yards per carry. He managed to contribute through the air as well, catching 23 balls for 149 yards. Despite primarily rushing the ball, Blaze did record 25 pancakes, allowing 2 sacks. With Norfolk drafting another running back, Blaze will look to transition to more of a role as a swiss army knife in the coming season, but regardless of role, his abilities will be key to the Norfolk Seawolves' success this season. As he goes, so will the Seawolves!

Blaze's sophomore campaign saw him become more of the swiss army knife he planned to be from the jump, as the emergence of star halfback Fig Newton cut down on his need to be the primary ball carrier. Despite nearly 100 fewer carries than the previous season, Blaze averaged half a yard more per carry and finished with just 2 fewer touchdowns on the ground, a disparity he made up for with two receiving touchdowns in the air. The fullback was also able to rack up 10 more pancakes than the previous season. Ultimately, while his utility was helpful, the Seawolves couldn't overcome inexperience on both sides of the ball, finishing in last place in the league. Going into what is likely Blaze's final DSFL season, the team seems stacked coming off of a great draft, and Blaze should be able to again be effective on the ground, through blocking, and through the air.

Another season, and another tough go for Norfolk, who finished with a 5-9 record and once again missed the playoffs. With further emergence of Fig Newton, Blaze once again did a bit of everything. He had 23 fewer rushing attempts than the previous season, totalling 131 carries for 564 yards and 4 touchdowns. Through the air, his numbers were similar, with 47 catches for 316 yards and 1 touchdown. As he often found himself targeted on passes over the middle, Blaze's pancake numbers decreased from 35 to 22. After speaking to his ISFL GMs, Blaze is going to take his final season of eligibility in Norfolk to try to right the ship and leave it all on the field for the Seawolves. Unlike his rookie season, when he was unexpectedly forced into the starting HB role, Blaze is better prepared this time and will look to improve upon rookie totals of 1,100 total scrimmage yards and 7 touchdowns, and should form a formidable duo with rushing quarterback Elijah Dyson.
