After playing as a prospect for the Kansas City Coyotes, Smyth was drafted 19th overall by the London Royals. Everyone was expecting him to go to Tijuana in the second round, so he was very surprised to find out he dropped. He had a very uninspiring rookie season, and finished near last in all statistical categories, though he was nominated for Defensive Tackle of the Year and was even voted into the Pro Bowl in a tie. His next season he hopes to do much better before getting the call to Baltimore.
