Vander Jones summary
Contents
Early years
Vander Jones grew up in Auburn, Washington which was 30 miles south of Seattle. He started playing football when he was 14 years old after his high school coaches hounded him to give football a try. Before football Vander loved the game of basketball and thought that was his path to success.
College career
Vander Jones went on to have a highly successful high school career as a running back and defensive back before accepting a full ride scholarship to the University of Central Florida. While at UCF Vander would go on to be a two-year starter at corner back and earned first-team All-ACC honors in his Senior season. While Vander didn't get drafted in the NFL, he had multiple undrafted free agent offers, but decided to venture to the alternate professional league, the NSFL.
Professional career
DSFL career
Vander Jones would eventually get picked up by the San Antonio Marshall's and go on to have a fantastic two year run with the Marshall's. He helped lead the Marshall's to the number one defense in the DSFL in his third season and also won Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors after tying the single season interceptions record with 8. Vander left his mark on the DSFL but had to leave eventually. He declined a mutual option with the team that drafted him, the Orange County Otters, and went on to sign a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Liberty. However Vander will no longer play corner back like he did in the DSFL but he will be moving to running back to kick off his NSFL debut and career.
