He attended All Saints High School, in Fort Worth, and enrolled at the [[wp:University of Houston|University of Houston]]. Applehort left college with a career total of 12,541 passing yards, 127 passing touchdowns, 25 interceptions, and a total record of 33-4 for the [[Houston Cougars football|Cougars]]. He set a record for the most passing yards in a single season (6,035), as well as setting Houston Cougars records in most passing touchdowns in a single season (56), and most passing yards in a single game (723). He played college football for Louisiana State University (LSU) before entering the professional ranks in 2023, notably the second oldest draftee ever at age 51, but having spent 28 years in a cryogenic stasis due to an illegal medical experiment.
