Mistah Darryl Freddy (born December 12, 1999) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

"Mistah Darryl Freddy was born on December 12th in Scranton, PA to 18-year-old Glynn Freddy and 16-year-old Jada Philbin. Shorly after the birth, the couple split and Mistah was raised by the now-single Jada. Mistah is the 1st of six children born to Jada, but the only one fathered by Glynn Freddy. The family moved around a lot between family members of Jada's and various small apartments that she could afford intermittently. As Darryl grew older, he began to take on an income-earning role, working part-time manual labor jobs. Because of this, Mistah's attendance in school suffered. Mistah never played organized sports growing up. However, his family and friends would always describe him as athletic. He played some playground basketball and enjoyed watching Kung-Fu movies and practicing martial arts with his siblings.

By Middle School, Freddy's size was noticeable and the football coaches recruited him heavily, but Mistah always prioritized working over extracurricular activities (and often class attendance). In his first two years at West Scranton high school, his class attendance was very low and Mistah was struggling to pass his classes. Going into his Junior year, the high school footbal coach used this as leverage to convince Freddy to try out for the team. Freddy was an immediate force and started Varsity in his first year. "

College career

"Freddy was not highly recruited coming out of high school, after only playing 2 seasons. However, the coach at West Scranton high school was a University of Pittsburgh alum and highly recommended the recruitment of Freddy by his alma mater. Without much competition, Pitt offered Freddy a full-ride scholarship to play football. Mistah accepted and enrolled in the school in the fall following his senior year at West Scranton.

Mistah redshirted his freshman year and saw limited playing time his redshirt freshman season. He earned a starting spot his sophomore year and put up a respectable performance. It was in his Junior year that he began to make pro scouts notice as he helped a much-improved Panther defense lead their struggling offense to the ACC championship game. Despite losing to Clemson, most supporters considered the season a success, following the underwhelming pre-season predictions. In Freddy's senior season he earned pre- and post-season NCAA Division I All-American honors, won the ACC Defensive Lineman of the year, and was a finalist for the Bednarik and Outland awards."
