Career highlights and awards

Mistah Freddy (born December 12, 2024) is an American football defensive tackle for the Sarasota Sailfish of the National Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early years

Mistah Darryl Freddy was born December 12, 2024 to Glynn Darryl Freddy and Jada Philbin Freddy. The Freddys lived in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA where Glynn worked as a warehouse manager for an office supply company and Jada stayed home to care for the children. Mistah is the seventh of seven children. The Freddy’s were considered lower-middle class.

Mistah never enjoyed playing organized sports. He admired his father’s work ethic and enjoyed completing menial tasks in the warehouse when given the opportunity. He and his brothers enjoyed watching Kung Fu movies and practicing Martial Arts. However, as his father Glynn was a big football fan, all the boys played youth football.

Mistah was blessed with incredible size for a child, which he carried with him through his career. He was fast for his size as well, which made him a force on the gridiron from a very young age. By middle school, Mistah was miles above the competition and was offered a scholarship to Scranton Prep to play high school football.

College Career

Although he did not dream of playing professional football, Mistah always valued education and hard work. His father, Glynn, set that example for the household, but also heavily promoted entrepreneurship. Mistah and his brothers ran businesses from lemonade stands, to candy bar shops at the cafeteria. So when Mistah was offered a full scholarship to Pitt to play football, he took that as an opportunity to obtain a business education for free.

Freddy immediately was an impact for the Pittsburgh Panthers. He played in 12 games, garnering 46 tackles - 10 for loss - and 4.5 sacks. He was named Second Team All-ACC as well as Freshman All-American. Despite his studies being a priority, Freddy always worked very hard on football, taking to heart his responsibility to his school.

Sophomore year proved a bit down for Freddy, and some pundits posted some concerns that he may not have the mental drive to stay competitive at the NCAA Division 1 level. But he bounced back in a major way in his third collegiate season, starting all 14 games for Pitt, gathering 47 tackles - 14 for loss - and amassing 6.5 sacks. This performance earned him First Team All-ACC honors as well as Second Team All-American. He also was a finalist for the Bednarik and Outland trophies.

Going into his senior season, Freddy was touted to have one of the most dominant defensive seasons in recent memory from an interior defensive lineman. And the 6’6” 315lb force of a man did not disappoint. He played and started all 13 games for the Panthers, pulling in 41 tackles, 12 for a loss, and stunned the nation with a huge 10.5 sacks. This impressive performance earned him First Team All-ACC, First Team All-American, and the Outland award for best interior lineman. He was also a finalist for the Bednarik award, and won the Campbell Trophy for best scholar-athlete, which Freddy would later say was his proudest accomplishment.

In his college career, Freddy played in 50 games for Pitt, totaling 162 tackles, 42 for loss, and 24.5 sacks.
