Matthew Rickety Cricket Mara (born December 25, 2025) is an American football wide receiver who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Liberty University (LU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early Years

Matthew Mara was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Martha Mara and Jack Mara. He has one younger brother (2 years), Davey Mara. As well as a beloved family golden retriever named Poppins.

Matthew's family owns and operates a construction supply company named Mara Lumber that has been in business since 1934. It was founded by Matthew's great-great-grandfather and has been in the family ever since. When not in school or playing football, Matthew would spend his time working at the family business doing a variety of tasks such as a cashier, stocking shelves, loading trucks, managing inventory, and customer service.

Matthew attended Saint Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, PA. He wasn't initially interested in sports but during his freshman year the coach of the football team witnessed an incident in which Matthew was being chased by a couple of bullies and managed to evade them with what the coach would later described as "amazing skill and speed". That display impressed the coach so much that he tracked Matthew down and convinced him to join the struggling high-school football team who had recently lost their best wide receiver to graduation the year prior.

The moment that Matthew was on the field he became an elusive threat on offense. He gave opposing players and coaches fits as he had a puzzling ability to evade tackles and get out of seemingly impossible situations un-touched. The offense even developed plays specifically for him as he would line up as running back or even the quarterback on 4th if they needed a last ditch effort. By the end of his sophomore season, Matthew was amongst the top prospects in the nation and had scouts at every game he played. Even with all the attention, the team proceeded to win the National Championship that season as well as the next two seasons he was there.

By the time his high-school career was completed, Matthew held nearly every record that was tracked by the school who retired his jersey immediately after graduation.

College Career

Being one of the top prospects in the entire nation, Mara had the opportunity for a full scholarship to any school he desired. Ultimately he chose to stay close to his faith and attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia from 2043 to 2046 where he pursued a BA degree in theology.

Freshman Season

In 2043, Mara spent the majority of his freshman season on the bench and when he did see the field it was as a specialty teams player. Despite being regarded as one of the top prospects, the coach of Liberty University refused to give Mara any special treatment and instead relied heavily on the players in their senior year that season. This caused outrage by some of the more vocal fans which was then stoked into a controversy by local media who printed articles on the fear of Mara's talent was being wasted.

Sophomore Season

The 2044 season saw Mara joined by freshman quarterback Luke McPoyle who was known for his strong arm. The two became instant friends off the field while spending a great deal of time on it practicing and developing new schemes for the upcoming season. With the graduation of the seniors from the previous season it gave the duo the opportunity to take the reigns of the team and make it their own. This led to Mara becoming a legitimate threat, receiving 68 passes for 1,142 yards and 9 touchdowns and the duo earning the nickname ""The Apostles"" by the fans.

Junior Season

As the duo of McPoyle and Mara continued to show their great chemistry they were granted greater lee-way with their play-calling and formations. This in turn led to more offense and some truly staggering numbers for the pair. Mara had a record setting 2045 campaign including NCAA marks for receptions (171) and receiving yards (2,465) and was named a first-team Division I-AA All-American. He also set a single-game NCAA record with 27 receptions against rival Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. By the end of the season the team was on the cusp of being named a top 10 ranked team in the nation and had expectations to exceed that next season.

Senior Season

As a senior in 2046, Mara was on-pace to shatter his own Division I-AA records from the previous season. The dynamic duo picked right up where they left off the prior season with intentions of winning a big bowl game. That was until tragedy struck on Friday October 19th, 2046 when the car Matthew Mara was driving was struck head-on by a distracted driver who crossed into his lane. Emergency responders were able to extract Mara and transport him to the hospital with severe injuries to both arms.

Mara spent the next week in the hospital recovering and then the next 6 months endured surgeries. All in hopes to repair the damage to his hands and give him the ability to resume his potential lucrative career that was cut abruptly short. Regardless of the outcome, his NCAA football career was over and so was the potential of a possible fairytale ending.

Post Grad

The accident weighed heavily Mara and he turned to his faith to lift him up during the darkest days. This ultimately lead him to the path of priesthood as he chose to hang up his pads and put on a robe. After graduating from Liberty University, Mara committed to his faith and pursued his masters degree in theology by attending Dallas Theological Seminary from 2047 to 2048. Shortly after completion of his masters, Matthew became Father Mara and joined the priesthood. He transferred back to his hometown of Philadelphia. As he returned, Father Mara re-united with an old flame from high-school who convinced him that he made a mistake and that he should leave the priesthood. Love-struck, Mara followed his heart and left the priesthood shortly after joining only to ultimately be rejected by his long lost love after informing her.

Now heartbroken and lost, Mara turns his focus back to the field and will be trying put the pieces of his life back together. Nobody questions his legs or his raw ability but there are concerns as to how well his hands have healed and whether he can still catch the ball like he use to.
