Hamel put up very good numbers in his rookie season. Playing on what is mostly viewed as a great offensive roster, he notably shared the offensive line with Offensive Liner of the Year nominee Chuck Roth. Both players occupied the Offensive Tackle roles on either side of the line and the two of them only allowed two sacks in the whole season (14 games) when they were on the field. On a personal level, Hamel laid out a total of 50 pancakes in the same timespan. This was good to put him in the top-5 leaguewise in that category, only one pancake behind Riposte and Davis, both from Tijuana, who tied in third place at 51. Hamel over-performed his draft position in that regard. Hamel also won an individual game award : after Game 11 of the S24 season, he was awarded the Pythons' Offensive Game Ball award. He had a total of 6 pancakes in that single game.

Marc Richard Hamel (born November 22, 1995) is an American football offensive lineman for the Portland Pythons of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

"Marc Richard Hamel is a young football player playing for the Portland Pythons in the DSFL. He is eligible to be drafted in the ISFL in the S25 ISFL Entry Draft. He was born in Grosses-Roches, Québec, Canada from William Thomas Hamel and Virginie Suzanne Hamel (nee St-Jean). His father, a military man, starts training Marc early in his life. Marc Hamel was a tall and strong kid, always of a size with boys one or two years older.

Quickly, Marc develops a taste for football and, with his size, is by far the best in the small Grosses-Roches region. When he was 10, his family moved to the slightly bigger town of Mont-Joli, Québec, Canada. Hamel has been known to say that this move was a pivotal point in his development, for there were boys that could compete with him in Mont-Joli. He spent his whole high school career there with the Monarchs du Mistral. He played every position but quarterback and wide receiver, depending on the teams need."

College career

"Québec's higher education system isn't made to facilitate the development of professionnal athletes. Before getting into a university, which would have the highest level of amateur football, Hamel had to go through a general college. He completed a degree in humanities at Cégep de Trois-Rivières, where he played for the Diablos.

It was there that Hamel started specializing in the role of Offensize Lineman. He was not as physically dominant at this level as he could be in high school and was made to choose a single position by Francis Papineau, the head-coach of the Diablos. Hamel never confirmed nor denied the rumors saying he rolled a 10-sided die to make a decision on the position.

The Diablos weren't a force in the Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec, but Hamel's performance in one particular game (Diablos' defeat against the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit Lynx in the finals of the Division II title, Hamel's last game with the team) got him the attention of a scout from the Laval University Rouge&Or.

Next season, Hamel was on the starting line-up for Laval after an impressive training camp. He kept his post throughout his whole four years pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing, winning three Dunsmore Cups (Québec's provincial title) and one Coupe Vanier (Canada's national title) in his last season."

DSFL career

"After a lot of incertitude linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamel declared his intention for the S24 DSFL draft only a few days before the date.

He was chosen by the Portland Pythons at the very beginning of the 9th round of that draft. Hamel transitioned into his new league very well, surprising a lot of people. Most of all, he surprised himself. He even stated in a post-game interview that he had ""never played like this before"" and that ""something about playing with highly performing teammates awakens the beast inside"".

Hamel and the Pythons made it to the playoffs in S24 after finishing second in the NFC. They faced the London Royals who were first of the division. Hamel recorded 3 pancakes in that game and didn't allow a single sack, but the team ultimately fell short and lost by a score of 22-3.

Hamel is not expected to make the ISFL after the draft and should be back with the Pythons for S25.

" Sam Mercury's first professional season with the Baltimore Hawks was underwhelming to say the least. It was always going to be difficult for him to put up any meaningful stats as he was playing behind two of the league's best receivers but it was still disappointing nonetheless. Mercury would play in all 16 games for the Hawks and offer a safety valve over the middle for his quarterback. He would finish second among rookie receivers in receptions during the regular season but it only amount to an average of 7.1 yards per reception. This can be chalked up to a red shirt season essentially as Mercury did not get to line up on the outside for his routes so he could not put his elite speed to use. Despite the lack of explosive plays he still had some memorable games and helped the Hawks to a 12-4 regular season record. In the two playoff games the Hawks would appear in Mercury did a bit more with the ball in his hands as he combined for 8 receptions for 99 yards. They would lose in heartbreaking fashion and fall one game short of the Ultimus. Now, headed into year two, it is likely Mercury remains in the same role he filled in his rookie season so expecting a sophomore leap will likely not come to fruition.
