Early years
Lennox Garnett was born in Rock River, Clarendon, Jamaica to Marcia and Donovan Garnett. Like many from his hometown, his parents moved to the United States when he was young, leaving him to be raised by a friend of the family, known only as "Miss Rita". While abroad, his parents saved enough money to send for him when he was ten years old. Upon arrival in Palmetto Estates, Florida, he found he had two younger siblings, Aaron and Tanya. The move to Florida was difficult for Lennox, who initially struggled in school as he felt he did not fit in, and many teachers could not understand his strong Caribbean accent.

Ocewilder was born in Leeds, United Kingdom and was raised by his mother, Jillian Ocewilder, a former olympic sprinter. His father's family is of Norweigian descent, and his mother's family is of Native American ancestry. Ocewilder moved to America when he was 10 years old with his mother and eventually attended Biloxi High School in Biloxi, Mississippi and lettered in basketball, football, and still schoool records in the 100 yard dash. At age 12, Ocewilder decided to pursue his dream of making it to the NFL. He would wake up at 4 a.m. every morning to train. As the point guard for the basketball team, he averaged 24 points a game. He was a multi-position athlete for the Biloxi Indians football team, playing the running back, wide reciever, linebacker, and occasionally kick returner. In his senior year, he won the state championship game against Petal High School rushing for 198 yards and catching another 130 yards in the air while scoring 6 touchdowns collectively while also posting a Pick-Six.

Lennox had not been particularly interested in sports back in Jamaica, but dabbled in athletics and occasionally soccer. In his final year at Richmond Heights Middle School, Lennox had a growth spurt and was encouraged to take up sports more seriously. He would compete in track events for the Raiders, showing some promise, while also training with the football and basketball teams. At Coral Reef High, Lennox dove into football, where he quickly learned his sprint speed could make a difference for the Barracudas. By senior year, he was entrenched in the football team as a versatile defensive player, taking snaps at linebacker, cornerback, and safety. He left high school having lettered three years in football, and once in basketball.

In 6, Garnett was named a four-star football recruit by Rivals.com. Upon graduating high school, Garnett, at his parents' suggestions, took a partial scholarship offer to study at Howard University, where he majored in Finance.

Playing for the Howard Bison football team from 6 to 9, Garnett started 37 of 46 games at safety, including two Celebration Bowl starts. Freshman year, he started six games in the secondary, after impressing as a backup during the first half of the season. He ended the year with a total of 67 tackles (plus four more tackles for loss) and 2 sacks, alongside 3 interceptions. Sophomore year saw a significant improvement, as Garnett almost doubled his output, picking up 121 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 5 interceptions. The highlight of the year came when he returned an interception 86 yards for a touchdown against Delaware State.
+
Ocewilder was heavily recruited by mostly SEC teams. Choosing to attend the Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where he majored in communications. He remained on the scout team until injuries promoted him to starter for his sophomore season. In his career, he totaled 154 receptions for 1,992 yards and 27 touchdowns. While still focused on his dream of the NFL, Ocewilder continued to excel as a multi-sport athlete. He was suspended for the first 2 games of his senior season for his involvement in a fight that reportedly Ocewilder provoked. He apologized for his actions and stated he would make it up to his fans. After missing 0 games his first 3 years, Ocewilder went on to have his best collegieate year stats wise in his shortened season.

Junior year, Garnett was a standout defensive player as the Bison made it to the Celebration Bowl. Taking snaps at linebacker as well as safety, Garnett totaled a career-best 137 tackles and was awarded the Celebration Bowl Defensive MVP award in the win over Grambling State. The Bison would return to the Celebration Bowl the following year, with Garnett taking a starring role yet again, picking up 123 tackles on the season, as well as returning three interceptions for touchdowns. This time, they beat the Alcorn State Braves to be crowned "black college football national champions", with Garnett playing an integral role in the Bisons' fourth-quarter comeback by returning a kickoff for 82 yards to set up the game-winning touchdown, after a red zone interception on the previous drive had given the Bison a chance to tie the score up. For the second consecutive year, he was named Celebration Bowl Defensive MVP.

Garnett made himself eligible for the 10 after completing his fourth year of eligibility at Howard, and graduating with a degree in Finance. He was selected sixth overall by the Kansas City Coyotes, the first safety off the board, after impressing at the 10 DSFL Workout Day. The Coyotes, despite boasting a lot of talent – the first three selections in the following year's NSFL Draft were all Coyotes in 10 – failed to make the playoffs, but Garnett impressed with 110 tackles, 7 sacks and 4 tackles for loss in his 14 games. In addition, he showed some promise in pass coverage, picking up 4 interceptions and successfully defending 7 passes.

In the lead-up to the 11, Garnett was a consensus first round pick, with some suggesting that either he or Coyotes teammate Alex Selich would likely be the first name off the board. It turned out that the Philadelphia Liberty selected Lennox with the first overall pick, and shortly after, he signed to a three-year deal worth over $10m.

The 11 season saw a dramatic improvement for the Liberty, who had gone 0-14 the previous year, as they finished the season with a 7-7 record, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. Garnett led all rookies in interceptions, scoring his first NSFL touchdown in the week nine defeat in San Jose on a thirty-four yard return.

The improvement continued into 12, though Philadelphia's record did not improve from the 7-7 mark of the previous season. Garnett again featured among the league leaders in interceptions as the Liberty made the playoffs just two years divorced from a tank season. The 2027 NSFC Championship game between the Liberty and their hated rivals, the Baltimore Hawks, ultimately went to overtime, before the Hawks claimed a 30-24 victory. Garnett managed nine tackles on the night, a figure surpassed only by Austin Roenick, though he would later lament that his mistake on third-and-six – in which he allowed Hawks tight end Verso L'Alto to get the first down – was only one of many costly errors he made, and that he would be doing all he could to eliminate them from his game.
