Lamont McKinnie (born April 17, 2006) is an American football safety who is currently playing for the Arizona Outlaws. He played college football for University of Arizona (Arizona) and was drafted in the 2029 DSFL Draft (S14) to the Palm Beach Solar Bears. The Outlaws selected McKinnie in the third round of the season 15 draft. He is currently the starting Strong Safety for the Outlaws.

Early years

McKinnie was born in Phoenix, Arizona and mostly played basketball growing up. In high school, he was a 2-star recruit in basketball but he chose to focus on his football career. In his small high school division, he never left the field, playing Quarterback and Safety. Coaches compared him to players like Eric Berry and Harrison Smith. A smart kid, he graduated high school a year early at 17. He ended up committing to Arizona, his dream school, to play Safety.

College career

A Safety needy Arizona team decided to start McKinnie right away and that decision paid off big time. He had 74 tackles, a Forced Fumble, 2 sacks, and 3 interceptions as a true freshman, winning him PAC12 freshman of the year. His sophomore year was derailed by an injury in the second week of the season. McKinnie tore his meniscus and had to miss the whole year while recovering. He called it, "the worst year of his life". By junior year, his coaches noticed the effort he put into rehab and his impact on the sideline even while injured, so he was made defensive captain. He led the Wildcats with 87 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 4 interceptions and a defensive touchdown on their way to a 9-3 record and an Alamo Bowl victory in which he was named the game's MVP. He decided to skip his senior season and declare for the DSFL draft.

Lamont was selected by the Palm Beach Solar Bears in the 6th round of the 2029 DSFL draft. He hasn't performed spectacularly but he's been solid in coverage and coaches have praised his dedication and improvements. After his somewhat disappointing rookie season with the Solar Bears, McKinnie declared for the NSFL draft and was selected by his hometown team, the Arizona Outlaws, in the third round. In his debut game he recorded 14 tackles and a pass defense. His season with the Outlaws was decent but nothing spectacular. He forced his first professional turnover by recovering a fumble and also had 86 tackles.

In Lamont's third season as a pro, he made huge strides. For the first time in his career, he got more than 100 tackles for the first time. McKinnie also got his first career interception and forced 3 fumbles. Coaches praised his improvement on the year.
