The established pattern of the Yeti performing poorly despite Saint’s strong play would continue for the next few seasons. In 2020, the Yeti would go 2-12 - the league’s second worst record - despite another Pro Bowl year from Saint. That season, Saint’s fifth, would be particularly notable as his role was shifted to include more coverage duties. He would rise to the occasion in that respect, producing the fourth most interceptions in the league with 5 on top of a career high 16 passes deflected.

Colorado Yeti

In 2016, Johnathon Saint was selected by the Colorado Yeti with the 58th overall pick in the inaugural NSFL draft. His impact was felt immediately, as he was sixth in the league in tackles with 101 and tied for second in sacks with 14. His contributions would earn him a Pro Bowl selection and the first ever NSFL Linebacker of the Year award. The Yeti’s 8-6 record was third highest in the league and qualified them for a playoff berth. After defeating the Wraiths in the NSFC championship game, they would ultimately lose the Arizona Outlaws in the first ever Ultimus Bowl by a score of 6-29. This would be the last time that Saint would appear in the playoffs until the twilight of his career.

Saint would continue to produce at a high level the following season. He was third in the league in tackles and anchored the league’s second best defense while earning another Pro Bowl nod. Despite the Yeti again going 8-6, they would ultimately fall short of making the playoffs.

The relative success Saint and the Yeti experienced during the first two NSFL seasons would come to a screeching halt in 2018. While Saint would again make the Pro Bowl as a reserve, he was outside of the top ten in all major statistics. Colorado would end the season with the league’s second worst record at 3-11.

The team’s fortunes did not improve much the following year as they ended up at the bottom of the league with a 1-13 record and the worst offense and defense in the NSFL. Saint himself had a much stronger season, coming in second in the league in tackles with 128 and earning his fourth straight Pro Bowl selection.

The established pattern of the Yeti performing poorly despite Saint’s strong play would continue for the next few seasons.
