Jack Banks (born January 13, 1999) is an American football linebacker who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for University of California Berkeley (CAL) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

"Jack Banks was born in Oakland, California on January 13, 1999 to Sharon Edwards and David Banks.

Jack's mother, Sharon Edwards, was a prominent astrophysics professor at the University of California Berkeley. Jack's father, David Banks, was a highly-regarded college basketball player at the University of Kansas.

Jack parents wanted to give him a well-rounded upbringing, so he would spend time listening to his mother's lectures as well as playing basketball, football, and baseball with his father. Jack was leaning toward pursuing a career in science, but his love of football bloomed while playing at Oakland Tech. Jack played running back and linebacker in high school, and he was the head of the science club and a member of the debate team. Banks was recruited to play football at a number of high-profile colleges and ultimately decided to play at his mother's alma mater."

College career

"Banks began his college career as a backup linebacker, but quickly made a name for himself and became a starter by mid season. The true freshman played in 13 games, starting the final six, and amassed nearly 100 tackles. Banks impressed his coaches and the nation, and was named to the Pac-12 All Defensive team.

Banks began his sophomore season as a clear cut starter and leader of his team's defense. Banks started the season on fire, recording at least 10 tackles in each of his first four games. Unfortunately, Banks injured his shoulder in Cal's week five matchup with Oregon. Banks collided with the Oregon quarterback forcing a fumble, but landed awkwardly on his shoulder. Banks would miss the rest of that contest and three more games before he returned in week nine. Thankfully for Banks the injury didn't linger and he finished the season leading the team in tackles.

In what would be his final college season, Banks entered his junior year fully healthy and was the preseason favorite for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. In a fantastic season debut performance Banks tallied 18 tackles as well as a sack and an interception. The individual dominance continued thoughtout the season as Banks lead the conference in tackles and was indeed named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. After such a fantastic season Jack Banks declared his intention to forego his senior year and declare for the draft."
