Jack Banks (born January 13, 1999) is an American football linebacker who is currently signed by Honolulu and playing for the Norfolk SeaWolves. He played college football for University of California Berkeley (CAL).

Early years

Jack Banks was born in Oakland, California on January 13, 1999 to Sharon Edwards and David Banks.

Jack's mother, Sharon Edwards, was a prominent astrophysics professor at the University of California Berkeley. Jack's father, David Banks, was a highly-regarded college basketball player at the University of Kansas.

Jack parents wanted to give him a well-rounded upbringing, so he would spend time listening to his mother's lectures as well as playing basketball, football, and baseball with his father. Jack was leaning toward pursuing a career in science, but his love of football bloomed while playing at Oakland Tech. Jack played running back and linebacker in high school, and he was the head of the science club and a member of the debate team. Banks was recruited to play football at a number of high-profile colleges and ultimately decided to play at his mother's alma mater.

College career

Banks began his college career as a backup linebacker, but quickly made a name for himself and became a starter by mid season. The true freshman played in 13 games, starting the final six, and amassed nearly 100 tackles. Banks impressed his coaches and the nation, and was named to the Pac-12 All Defensive team.

Banks began his sophomore season as a clear cut starter and leader of his team's defense. Banks started the season on fire, recording at least 10 tackles in each of his first four games. Unfortunately, Banks injured his shoulder in Cal's week five matchup with Oregon. Banks collided with the Oregon quarterback forcing a fumble, but landed awkwardly on his shoulder. Banks would miss the rest of that contest and three more games before he returned in week nine. Thankfully for Banks the injury didn't linger and he finished the season leading the team in tackles.

In what would be his final college season, Banks entered his junior year fully healthy and was the preseason favorite for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. In a fantastic season debut performance Banks tallied 18 tackles as well as a sack and an interception. The individual dominance continued thoughtout the season as Banks lead the conference in tackles and was indeed named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. After such a fantastic season Jack Banks declared his intention to forego his senior year and declare for the draft.

2036 Season

After a stellar college career Jack Banks was drafted in the ninth round (#70 overall) by the Norfolk SeaWolves of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL) at the start of the 2036 season. Banks quickly integrated with the Norfolk defense, collectively dubbing the unit the "Hit Squad". The entire Norfolk locker room seemed to rally around one another to start the year. They believed they had something special brewing. Although Banks' individual statistics weren't as impressive as his college numbers, he contributed to a deep defensive unit that ranked first in the conference in both points allowed and passing yards allowed. Banks himself would chip in 35 tackles and intercept one pass. After an up and down start to the season Norfolk would finish the campaign on a three game winning streak to end up at a team best 8 wins and find themselves sneaking into the playoffs. The team would go on the face their rivals, the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, in the first round. The SeaWolves would ultimately lose the game and their season would end.

Following the season, Banks was drafted in the fifth round (#55 overall) by the Honolulu Hahalua, an expansion team entering their first season in the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). Banks signed a three year contract with Honolulu, with the stipulation that the first season was to be played in the DSFL in a return to Norfolk. After the draft, Banks was quoted as saying "I can't wait to finish what we started in Norfolk before building something special in Honolulu."

2037 Season

Jack Banks started his second season in Norfolk on a mission. Banks vowed to be "the best version of myself" on the field and it showed immediately. Banks led his team to a 3-1 preseason record and amassed 44 tackles, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception during that span. The team, and Banks himself, seemed primed for the regular season. After winning their opening regular season game, however, the Norfolk Seawolves would lose their next four straight games. The season was beginning to look dire for the team, but the Seawolves were able to rally their locker room and would go on to win five of their next six games. Around this time Jack Banks began gaining more attention around the league for his individual play, and started to build momentum for a possible Defensive Player of the Year award. The Seawolves would go 1-1 over their next two games, leaving the final game of the season as a must win to make the playoffs. As fate would have it, the final game would be against the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, Norfolk's chief rival. Although Norfolk struck first and often on the way to a 17-0 first quarter lead, then game was far from over. Myrtle Beach rallied all the way back, and eventually the game would head to overtime. The Seawolves would come out victorious after a kick from Sidekickieboy Bauer sailed through the uprights sending Norfolk to the playoffs.

Jack Banks' magical season would end in disappointment, however, as the Norfolk Seawolves would lose their first playoff game in overtime to the eventual DSFL champion Tijuana Luchadores. Banks himself became a finalist for both the Linebacker of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards, although he would not take home either prize.

2038 Season

After two seasons in the DSFL Jack Banks was ready to move up to the big leagues, the ISFL. As part of a trio of explosive linebackers Banks put up a solid season in his first year in Honolulu. The team, and Banks himself, got off to a slow start but turned things around in the second half of the season. The Hahalua's 1-5 record to begin the season left the team in a big hole to climb out of but the team rallied to make a playoff push. Banks did his best work in the back half of the year as well, finishing the season just shy of 100 tackles and 10 sacks. Banks' numbers would put him second on the team in sacks, second in passes defended, and third in tackles. The team put together a 6-4 record after their abysmal start, ultimately falling just short of a playoff berth with a loss to the Arizona Ouwlaws in the final game of the season. Although the Hahalua would just miss the playoffs with a 7-9 record the team felt like the future of the team was bright. Banks, and the team as a whole, hoped to carry the momentum of the second half of the year into the 2039 season.

In Banks' final interview of the season the linebacker seemed excited for the upcoming season. "Honestly, what this team has done in just a short amount of time is incredible. I'm proud to be here in Honolulu, and I'm proud of this team. Next season can't get here fast enough."

Shortly after the interview the team and Banks jointly announced a three year contract extension, tying him to the team through the 2042 season.

2039 Season

Banks and the entire Honolulu Hahalua team entered the 2039 season with high hopes. The team looked to build on a promising finish to the previous season and Banks himself was ready to take his game to the next level. The Hahalua came out of the gate strong, defeating the Arizona Outlaws 28-13 in Arizona. The team attempted to carry that momentum into their home opener but fell just short, losing to New Orleans by two points. This kind of up and down performance became indicative of how the season would play out. Honolulu alternated wins and losses for the first 11 weeks. It wasn't until a week 12 win against the Arizona Outlaws that the team was able to put together consecutive wins. This put the team in position to make it's first playoff appearance, but unfortunately the team would go on to lose three of their final four games and just narrowly miss the postseason with an 8-8 record.

Banks put up a solid season. Although his sacks dropped considerably (down to just two), he recorded three interceptions and ended the season with over 100 tackles.

As it turns out, this would be the final season in Honolulu for Jack Banks. The league had previously announced expansion and Banks was left unprotected by the Hahalua. Banks didn't have to wait long to find out where he was heading, however, as he was selected first overall in the expansion draft by the New York Silverbacks. Immediately after the draft Banks held a press conference where he said "I know what it takes to help build a team from the ground up. I am proud of my time in Honolulu and I can't wait to help the Silverbacks become a powerhouse in this league. The faith they've put in me as the #1 pick is incredible and I can't wait to repay them with my play on the field."
