Doug Howlett (born September 21, 2000) is an American football wide receiver for the Tijuana Luchadores of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Doug Howlet born in Auckland New Zealand grew up playing rugby and established himself as an elite talent during his time at Grammar college. After his time with Auckland Grammar he went on to have one of the most successful and notable careers in rugby, establishing himself as one of the all time best wingers to play the game. After Howletts successful career for the New Zealand All Blacks, he went on to play for the irish team Munster. After finishing his career for munster he decided to go under the knife and have age-reconstruction surgery to returned to 18 years old and pursue his life long dream to play American Football in the NSFL. Howlett models his gameplay after prominent NFL receivers such as Desean Jackson. He thrives to have the agility and speed of Desean Jackson mixed with the awareness and hands of Deandre Hopkins. He also aspires and models his game after successful NSFL receiver, H. Mongo.

College career

Howlett spent no time establishing himself as THE prominent Wide Receiver at college. Utilising the skills and abilities he worked on in his succesful rugby career, he established himself as a dominant force in the Oceanic football league. When it came time to be drafted, Howlett fell much further than he should've due to lack of recognition and the inability to speak english to certain scouts. During his time in college Howlett spent time watching tape, working on his footwork and burst speed and also spent time practicing yoga as well as other natural ways to keep his body ready for the big games.

In one of University of Canterbury's largest game against rivals University of Otago, Howlett put up school record numbers with 340 receiving yards, 30 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. This performance assisted in Canterbury's win over Otago. After his single season in college, Howlett believed it was time to set his eyes on the larger goal, the NSFL.

Professional career

Season 22

After being selected 60th in the DSFL draft by the Tijuana Luchadores, Howlett went on to have a strong rookie career behind the #1 receiver in the league, his teammate, F. Vequain. Howlett played as a strong second/third option behind F. Vequain and J. Kingston. In Howlett's one and only season in the DSFL thus far, he joined his team and made the DSFL playoffs after Tijuana had an incredible 10-4 season and holding the leagues highest winning percentage. Although Howlett didn't post incredible numbers, Tijuana beat the Norfolk Seawolves in the conference finals before moving on to face the London Royals in the ultimini.

The ultimini was finally upon Tijuana and Howlett was waiting in the locker room before exiting. He had been on a similar stage in his rugby career so he wasn't anxious or nervous but he was heckin' hyped. He looked around the locker room and could feel a sense of dread in the air. In order to raise the morale of his teammates he pulled out his trumpet and played an absolute banger of a tune, El Jarabe Tapatio. The locker room moshed for a good 5 minutes before taking to the field. Tijuana had a rough start accumulating any kind of offense but nailed it in overtime with a glorious field goal from Jacob Small. The Tijuana locker room was pumping and pouring with Tequila and Cornchips. They even brought in a nacho mix machine. You know those snow machines? Like that but it pumps nacho mix.

Howlett now has his eyes set on building and working on himself for the upcoming NSFL draft. Howlett said in a recent interview with GQ "I noticed a lot of people overlooking the talent I can bring to a team and the now immediate impact I could provide. I don't want to name anyone but there's plenty of players out there predicting the wrong players at the wrong time in the draft. Tune into this draft and see for yourself.."

Season 23

After their winning season in Season 22, Howlett had set his sights on becoming an ISFL starting receiver and had become churning the media for recognition in his ability to perform. Attending pressers, hosting podcasts, creating graphics he started to become a large roleplayer in Tijuana.

Howlett entered the NSFL draft as a top 10 receiver and was drafted in the third round, 8th pick to the Baltimore Hawks. As with most Wide receivers in this draft he was not immediately needed and was sent down to the DSFL for another year. Returning to Tijuana he had finally made a name for himself in the league. He had spent the year prior behind the likes of J.Kingston and F.Vequain but was determined to be more of a roleplayer in season 23.

In season 23 Howlett had become the league leader in receptions and yards making a phenomenal tandem in both himself and F.Vequain. Both receivers being the highest in yards across the league despite being thrown to by a split backfield. Howlett was also the first wide receiver in 4 seasons to crack 1,000 receiving yards. The Tijuana receiving core was electric and exciting to watch push the sticks. Unfortunately for Tijuana their send ups and inactive players list was too large a burden to birth a playoff run and were eliminated in week 12. This off season Howlett has shown intention to spend another year in Tijuana to help assist the team to another Ultimini run but intends to continue his grind and hopefully be called to man the helms of the receiving core in Baltimore in Season 25.

Season 24

Doug Howlett spent his off season in Kokomo Jamaica sippin' sweet cocktails and relaxing after having a fantastic season at the wide receiver position for Tijuana Luchadores. Howlett was nominated for Wide Receiver of the Year but fell short. Unfortunately, Tijuana Luchadores didn't have a great season and did not see the post-season. Howlett was then noted as having a chip and was determined to return to Tijuana to help get them to their former glory by bolstering their receiving core.

After opting out of the call up to play for Baltimore Hawks, Doug Howlett returned to Tijuana as the primary receiver. Howlett ended the season with an astonishing 1,002 yards the highest receiving yard total in the DSFL. 13.2 yards per reception the fourth highest in the DSFL (min. 30 receptions*). 76 receptions, the most in the DSFL and 7 touchdowns, tied 3rd most in the DSFL. Howlett also was a key piece for the success Tijuana saw in the regular season, assisting the team to finish first in their division. Unfortunately Tijuana came up short in their post-game appearance and was knocked out, losing to Norfolk Seawolves.

Even though Howlett and the Tijuana Luchadores wound up short in the post season, it didn't all end terribly. Doug Howlett was nominated and won DSFL WROTY for season 24 and was nominated for Offensive Player of The Year. Fantastic ending to his career in the DSFL as this will be the final year Howlett suits up in red and green as he will be called up to play for Baltimore in Season 25.
