Donovan Winters (born January 1, 1900) is an American football runningback for the Portland Pythons of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Donovan Winters was born in Toccoa, Georgia to Donovan Jr. and Martha Winters, and was raised there until the age of 13, when the family relocated to Santa Ana, California so Donovan could attend Mater Dei High School. Donny was a multi-sport athlete from an early age. He grew up playing Quarterback and Safety on the football field, as well as playing Attack and Midfield on the lacrosse team. He was known for his unlimited staminia, which he credits to running up and down Mt. Curahee, tracing the steps of his great-great grandfather, Richard Winters, of "Band of Brothers" fame. This stamina served as a foundation to his outstanding performance in both sports, however he decided to specalize in football, as he felt that his professional prospects were better. After being recruited by most major college football programs as a Quarterback, he committed to play college ball for Arizona State University.

College career

Donovan did not make an instant impact upon the Arizona State University football program, as he redshirted his freshman year. His redshirt freshman year, he made the playing roster, however he was third string on the depth chart and did not see the field. Donny credits these two years for much of his later success, as these were the first two years in his life that football had been his priority. It was during his redshirt yeah that he met his best friend, Sherwin Blue Jr., who was on a medical redshirt for an ankle injury of dubious severity. In Donovan's redshirt sophomore year, He was the backup QB, however a late season injury to the starter allowed Donovan to start the last three games of the season. Donovan used this momentum to earn the starting job for his redshirt junior year. Donovan and Arizona State had a fantastic season, finishing 13-1 with a Rose Bowl Victory. Donovan returned for his senior year despite much of the Rose Bowl winning team, including Sherwin Blue, declaring for the draft or graduating. ASU did not quite live up to expectations, finishing 10-3.
