Emile Smith Charles (born June 26, 1907) is an American football wide receiver who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UH) and played for the Portland Pythons in the DSFL.

Early years

Born in Sydney, Australia, Emile was born on the 1st of December 2034 to Mackenzie and Alex Charles. Emile relocated at young age to Hawaii where he attended Kalani High School, where he played as Conerback. During his time at Kalani, Emile was convinced to convert to wideout in his sophomore year by his coach, and operated as a two-way player for a while, before completely switching in his junior year. In his junior year took the majority of snaps at wide receiver, where his speed, agility and hands served him well. Emile racked up five touchdowns and 533 receiving yards. In his senior year, Emile would split time at conerback and wide receiver, though his contributions were primarily as a returner, picking up five touchdowns from kick and punt return duties. With somewhat limited opportunities in his senior year, Emile would also pick up track and field where he was able to showcase his speed in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash.

College career

Charles played three years for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriers, the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa football team. He appeared in all 13 games as a true freshman serving as a returner on special teams or in relief of the team's starting wide receivers. He saw limted action as a wideout with 7 catches for 102 yards and 1 touchdown. Charles was moved to a starting wide receiver role as a sophomore, after numerious departures from the team. Charles made the most of his opportunities, and would catch 41 passes for 714 yards and 9 toughdowns. In his junior season, his last in college football, Charles would be hampered by injuries to start the season, limiting his opportunities to contribute. With lingering injury issues, Charles would be eventually be moved down the depth chart and really only saw the field on special teams as a gunner and returner when he was healthy enough to see the field.

Professional career

DSFL Season 40

Drafted 36th overall in the Season 40 DSFL Draft, Emile Charles would join the Portland Pythons as a replacement for the departing Plant Based and Oliver Tolliver who were both headed to Bondi Beach Buccaneers in Season 40. Charles would join incumbent wideout Malcolm Grimes and fellow Season 40 rookie Forozka Duanei as the team's trio of wideouts to start the season. With a starting spot on offer, Charles was able to claim a starting role during training camp and while having a quiet preseason, was slated to be playing opposite of Grimes. Portland would get off to a rocky start, starting the season 1-3 before rallying to finish top of the DSFL North with a 8-6 record and go on to face the eventual champions Bondi Beach Buccaneers in Ultimini XL.

Charles would lead the league in receptions with 83 on the season while finishing 3rd in receiving yards with 1,187 while chipping in with 9 receiving touchdowns. Overall, a pretty successful rookie campaign for Charles who would also pick up a spot in the S40 DSFL Pro Bowl for the DSFL North.

ISFL Season 41

Drafted in the second round in the Season 41 ISFL Draft by the Berlin Fire Salamanders, Emile Charles received an immediate call up and was set to join Zayne Dangle and Really Creative-Name as the team's wideouts for Season 41. After training camp, Charles was listed as WR3 on the depth chart behind the established pair of Dangle and Create-Name. Berlin would get off to a slow start to the season, going 1-3 with an offense which struggled to get going. In a bid to bolster the offense and kickstart their season, Berlin would trade with New Orleans for a package that included wideout Ttollem Mada. As a result Charles found himself further down the depth chart and had limited opportunities to see the field. A stark difference from his rookie season in the DSFL, Charles would finish the season with 24 receptions, 251 receiving yards and 1 touchdown as Berlin finished with a 5-11 record.
