Escanor "Sin of Pride" Sama (born February 9, 2000) is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Birddogs of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).
Early years
Escanor Sama was born in Raleigh, NC. He moved to a small town in Halifax County as a child, where he grew up playing sports such as basketball, tennis, and soccer. However, none stood out to him quite like football did. He played wide receiver and safety in middle school and high school. He references Calvin Johnson as a childhood idol and role model. In middle school, Escanor Sama participated in the NFL Play 60 program, where he was able to further advance his skillset as a wide receiver, working with big names such as Odell Beckham Jr, and Deandre Hopkins. In high school, he made an immediate impression on college scouts. After leading his high school to four straight championships, he had the opportunity to meet with his idol and learn from him at a training camp. He received a full athletic scholarship to LSU as a 5 star recruit.
College career
"Escanor Sama was a 5-Star Recruit out of high school. His senior year of high school, he committed to Louisiana State University. His freshman year, he saw limited action on the field until the end of the season. He finished his freshman year with 38 receptions for 410 yards. Between freshman and sophomore year, he worked with Wide Receiver coach, Tee Martin. Sophomore year, Escanor Sama rose on the depth chart to WR3. He logged 76 catches for 978 yards, before suffering a fractured tibia that sidelined him for the last 5 weeks of the season. Junior year, Escanor Sama shined. He was WR1 on the roster for the first time. He finished the regular season with 147 receptions for 1984 yards. LSU qualified for the College Football Playoffs as the #2 seed, beating Ohio State in the semi-finals and beating Alabama in the finals to win the championship. Escanor Sama was the heavy favorite, and eventual winner of the Heisman Trophy. 2 weeks into the offseason, Escanor Sama declared for the DSFL draft."
